The Saga of Office Boy: The Show, Part Two (as explained by Office Boy).

Coming Up: The Car Conversation >>
A million thoughts were all running through my head at a hundred miles an hour, all generally leading up to the conclusion of, WHAT THE HECK? (Really? One thought was running through my head. But one big one. This is where my brain and my body had the conversation.
Brain: "Yes, Office Boy. You like this girl."
Me: "It all makes sense now!!! But why didn't you tell me?"
Brain: That's not how I operate."
Me: "It's not?"
Brain: "No."
Me: "You like keeping me in the dark?"
Brain: "Yes."
Me: "So you're evil?"
Brain: "...")

"Well, this is gonna make things complicated," he said, smiling. (My boy-ish smile... Office Boy-ish smile...)
I looked at him, a puzzled expression on my face. (I've seen this face many a time since.)
"I thought you said you didn't like me.""I never said that." (I may not know what's going on, but I at least know well enough to not admit to something I'm not sure about.)
"But you...""Think back to every conversation we had. Did I ever say that I didn't like you?"
I stopped. He had a point. He had very heavily insinuated that he didn't like me, (Insinuation isn't a solid notion of a thing.) that he wasn't interested in dating me, that he wasn't attracted to me in that way, etc. But the words, "I don't like you" never came out of his mouth. (Because I never said it. I'm not entirely sure if this was a conscious decision on my part, or just my stupid brain.)
"Well, no, but...""Exactly.""But you very much implied that you weren't interested in me. Why?""I was trying to deter you." (Yes. If dating her wasn't an option, I didn't want to break her hurt or hurt her in the slightest. So I left the doubt there so that she can always fall back on "Oh, well he never really wanted to anyway." It's easier to deal with something like that than to try to understand, "I like you, but circumstances." This wouldn't be so hard to understand if Shakespeare hadn't ruined it for guys by writing Romeo and Juliet. If you were alive Shakespeare, I'd punch you in your pre-pubescent mustachioed face, dick. [My apologies, bloggers, for the PG-13 language. Trust me when I say the comment was much funnier this way.])
"Umm...what?""After things went south with Anita*, I decided I wasn't going to date anyone from work. And then a few weeks later, you showed up being all sweet and pretty and funny and I was like, 'Dang it.' I thought if I deterred you for long enough you'd just give up and let it be.""Umm...news flash Office Boy, calling a girl every night after work, texting her constantly, telling her that talking to her makes you happy, and she makes work easier, and that you like calling her...that's not deterring! That's just confusing!""Well, I'm sorry. But I really do like you. But this is gonna be complicated." (So far, it hasn't been too complicated. I don't think anyway. Sarah can confirm.) <editor's note>It hasn't been complicated. In fact, it's been surprisingly easy to keep the relationship out of the suspicions of coworkers.</editor's note>
"Yeah," I said.
I paused and looked at him.
"So, what do you want to do?""Well, there are some things we're gonna have to think about and deal with. Like I know that you want marriage, and, at this point, that's not something I'm sure I want." (My opinion on the subject changes from time to time. I'd say it's changed as of recent events.)
"Oh," I said. "Well, the biggest issue for me is my faith. It's the most important thing in my life, so that is something that we need to be on the same page about if this is gonna work." (I've been getting more introspective about my involvement in my faith. I've regularly [with some exceptions] been attending church with Sarah so I can understand her faith's understanding of the gospel. I'm rasied Catholic, so I grew up knowing that I'm a terrible, terrible person, which isn't necessarily the case.)
"Ok," he said, smiling. "Hey, can we not really tell anyone about this until we figure it out?" (Yes. She's on a contract and I'm not. But I deal with finance, so it could be construed as favoritism. But it's officially "not" because I have no influence on the determination of her contract's renewal, award, or incentives.)
"That's alright by me," I said. "Let's just take it slow and see where it goes." (I think we still are, for the most part. Not jumping in too recklessly, but growing with each other.)

We continued to talk about various things for a little while, as the clock neared 2:00am. He looked up at the clock, looked back at me and smiled. (NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS AFTER 2AM!!!!)
"I should probably get going," I said."Because nothing good ever happens after 2:00am," he said with a grin. (Bonus points to whomever gets this reference!) (I honestly didn't read this part before I wrote my comment above. She got me addicted people. She's a pusher! [Additional bonus points if you remember the reference she comments on and understand my addiction.])

I gathered my stuff, put on my coat, and walked to the door.
"I'll see you on Monday," I said. "What about tomorrow?""We'll see.""Goodnight," he said, and leaned in and kissed me."Goodnight," I said.
I walked out the door, waved, then walked down the stairs and back to my car.
Alright. Well, we'll see what happens. (We still are, my lovely.)
