Goodreads blurb: Four young heroes.

One fatal prophecy.

An immortal enemy.

The adventure of a lifetime.

Be prepared for the worst!

‘Those who fear or side the darkness have no idea what the light can do. And I am that light. I will end your darkness here and now!‘ shouted I.

He replied, ‘Blabber all you want. A scum like you can never defeat me! I am immortal!

I shouted back, ‘Even an immortal has a weak point. And that is his soul. If I destroy your body, your soul will merely rebuild it or shift in to another body. But if I pin your very soul into my sword, it will gain all your powers and you will be destroyed as well.

He replied, quite shocked, ‘Hmm…Nice point. Let’s see you try…

—————-

In a parallel universe, on a parallel world, when Ichiro Umatsuki finds out on his thirteenth birthday that he and his three siblings, twin brothers and sister are destined to save the world from imminent destruction by the evil soul, they realize that they have finally found their purpose in life. After a year of intense training as described by their long lost parents’ gifts to them, they set out on a journey to find the remaining Spirit Fruits and enhance their powers to prepare for the final climactic battle with the evil soul.

This book The Swords of Darkness: Appearance of the Krito mainly deals with providing readers with the backdrop of the entire series, and how the Umatsukis travel to the fort where the first spirit fruit is located. The sudden appearance of the powerful Preskrito, Azgaurd’s story and whether they manage to consume the spirit fruit makes up the rest of the narrative.

Suffice to say that 14 year old Swarnim, the author of this book has managed to weave an engaging narrative in an absorbing setting. It is quite hard for readers not to get fully immersed in this apocalyptic world where imminent destruction by the evil soul is breathing down our necks. In Ichiro and his siblings, the author gives us likeable heroes to root for and we constantly find ourselves cheering them on in their various quests and frustrated at the hurdles they have to overcome.

The pace of the book is quite breathless with hardly any respite in the middle. And each and every turn these brave siblings take brings with it a fresh whiff of danger, adventure and the stuff that good stories are made of. This series is surely a nice contemporary take on the classic good versus evil template and given his age, Swarnim has done an extremely competent job of penning down an interesting book.

For sure, I will be reading the rest of the series with as much gusto and enthusiasm as I did the first book. So, what are you waiting for, go ahead and purchase the book from Flipkart [Link] or Amazon [Link]
