…Think Lovely Thoughts

Peter Pan PosterIt’s nearly less than 24 hours until NBC tackles another live musical. This year’s offering, as you probably already know, is “Peter Pan.”

For reasons aside than the obvious, this year’s production promises to be very different from last year’s. If you’re not sure what I’m referring to, just do a quick Twitter search for #SoundofMusicLive(specifically for last December).

While overall it was enjoyable, NBC’s “Sound of Music Live!” turned into a total snark-fest on Twitter.  Which was all well and good, (and incredibly entertaining when #TeamElsa was born) but this year we may have to behave ourselves.

It was hard to resist the temptation to comment on Carrie Underwood’s turn as Maria.  You know, it takes a lot of courage to put a new spin on a classic and beloved character, and Ms. Underwood stuck to her deer-in-the-headlights-doing-an-impression-of-a-lamppost interpretation, in spite of harsh Twitter criticism.

Sorry, had to get that last one out of my system.

Anyway, the point is that this year’s production appears to have lost it’s blatantly obvious weak link.  Meaning, any attempts to snark may come across as reaching for an insult…and borderline bitter.

So, with that in mind, it might be wise to think before you tweet.  While you may think the dancing men in tights look stupid, does it really need to shared, and is it detracting from the overall quality of the performance?  The correct answer is no.  Try and be kind tomorrow.
