This Day 22 Years Ago!

Posted on the 12 July 2012 by Mikidemann @mikidemann

Today is my birthday! Don’t you feel like we’ve been waiting for this for so long? Lots of build - up!

Can I get a wooo hoooo!? This is my final birthday post, unless I do a follow-up… who are we kidding there will definitely be a follow-up. If you’ve been reading along I have done a post each day this week to celebrate my birthday;a list of my past year accomplishments, a present wish list, and how I celebrate my birthdays.

Now dim the lights, because we are going to take it down a few notches. My mom sent me photos of her journal about this day 22 years ago. My mom and dad were young parents, they had my brother at 19, and me at 20. They were poor. My mom was working a crappy job, and staying up all night with 3 kids (my little brother was born when they were 22), and my dad worked 2 minimum wage jobs at a gas station and an art store, as he was trying to finish up his bachelors degree at the University of Utah, so he could start his own Design Firm. My mom always says she thinks my older brother is so smart, because he attended a good majority of college classes with my dad. My parents were dedicated and they did everything they could to raise us well with what they had. They did a fabulous job.

There is a story my mom tells about me and how I was the grumpiest baby. I cried for days and days and no one could get me to stop. My parents took shifts with me and then my aunts, cousins, uncles and grandparents would alternating shift, because I just wouldn’t stop! Finally my parents took out all of their money from their accounts to buy me a bouncing swing. Luckily it worked, and it was the only thing that would calm me down, and I would stay in it for hours and hours, until the batteries ran out. Then my mom would try and keep the bouncing motion by moving the swing manually while my dad changed the batteries, otherwise I’d have a baby fit. I was apparently really good at those!

Below is my moms journal. This is so sweet for me to read, and of course, I cried the first time I read it, but I am really grateful that my mom wrote my story down, now I can keep it here for my memories, and also I can share it with you. I was going to re-write it down under the photos as a caption, but for some reason in my head that takes away the authenticity.

Please enjoy.
