To the New Year

Posted on the 31 December 2014 by Shruti2910
It's that time of the year when resolutions are made and vows are taken. Resolutions, because everyone wants to change. No one is perfect and changing constantly tells how meaningfully one lives their life.
"I am what I am" is one of the most defensive statements I have come across by people whom anyone points out to change any of their habits. Defensive, because one doesn't want to put the required amount of efforts to change some habit that others think isn't good for them.
I used to be one of these people until today, when I saw everyone on my Facebook timeline vowing to their new year resolutions. To change themselves, to make themselves better than what they are today.
I have been a butt of fat-jokes forever since I was 12 year old. Society does have some stereotypes about the looks people are supposed to carry. Till now, I have written about how people should change their attitude towards fat people and that my fat is none of their business because somewhere, I wanted people to accept me for who I am. I wanted people to know how I am more than my fat, which I definitely am. Until my medical reports came last week which pointed to my high level of cholesterol. I am just 21! I tried to analyze my body and I realized I am so unhealthy that I can't even climb my home at 4th floor when lift isn't working. I cannot walk for more than 10 minutes because at the 9th minute, I am profusely sweating and panting. I am so addicted to unhealthy junk food that eating everyday at junk food outlet has become a part of my lifestyle. My breakfast apparently has 'healthy' packed food and lunch and dinners are usually at cafes with friends.
This new year, I wish to change. I wish to change because I am important to myself; more important than leisure is. Hence this new year, I resolve to focus on my health. This isn't going to be like all the other years where my resolution lasted till just 1st and 2nd January. I shall be taking help of my Micromax Canvas Tablet P666 to keep me reminding of my goals. I shall be using my tab to follow various workouts online and also keep a tab on my diet using diet diary apps available online.
