Today is a Good Day!

Posted on the 03 April 2017 by Altea Addison @AlteaAddison

Hello, Monday!

Okay, so, like everyone else, I have good days and bad days. I have fantastic days. And, sometimes, I have days that, for lack of a better term, suck.

At the beginning of last month, I had one of those really sucky days. I just wanted it to be over. I couldn’t wait to creep under a pile of protective blankets, rest my head on an understanding pillow, and fall into a deep and dreamless sleep.  I felt as though everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong. If I didn’t know any better, I would have said that the ruler of the universe decided to pick on me because he or she or it didn’t have anything better to do. Out of curiosity, he or she or it wanted to see how much crap I could take before I would throw my hands up in the air and shout, “You win! I give up!” at the top of my lungs.

Of course, the rational part of me knew that the ruler of the universe didn’t single me out to test my limits and push me to my breaking point. It just wasn’t my day. That was all. As Forrest Gump said, “Shit happens.”

Here is what I know about days: chances are that, at some point, you’re going to have one. Bad days happen. And, when they do, it’s okay to feel glum. It’s okay to vent your frustrations. It’s okay to complain. Get it out of your system. It’s normal and perfectly alright to do all of those things. But it’s not okay to give up.

The next morning, you have to get up and tackle the new day. You have to let go of yesterday. You have to move on. Now, I know that this is often easier said than done. Believe me, I speak from personal experience. It can be tempting to wallow in misery. Having said this, no matter how tempting wallowing might be, you have to snap out of it.

When you have difficulty moving on from a bad day, remind yourself that life is short. Do something that puts a smile on your face. Have a piece of cake for breakfast. Put on your favorite outfit. Listen to an upbeat song. Personally, I recommend Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now by Jefferson Starship. Click HERE and give it a shot.

For the record, in case you’re wondering, today is a good day for me. I woke up to a blue sky. I had the chance to hug the people I love. I made a delicious banana shake for lunch. That might not sound very exciting or special to you. But I’m grateful I got to do those simple things. I’m never going to take such things for granted. The simple things are what make life worth living.

That’s all from me for now. Have a fantastic week ahead!
