Today’s Youth – The Challenges

Posted on the 28 October 2012 by Blogbee @blogbee_

Majority of the discussions on youth have focused on issues such as poor performance in academics, low intellect, unemployment, cultural dilution, and at times sheer addiction to worldly vices.  Mirroring this fact today’s youth are affected by:

  1. An Identity Crisis
  2. Low self esteem
  3. Absolute miss-clarity on future path
  4. Varied detractions

Most of the Youth today have no idea about their importance in the society and the kind of role they should play for self-development and society growth. It can be their responsibilities towards their family, Society, and Nation? Most of them are ignorant about the loss that is going to happen in few decades if this irresponsibility and lack of awareness continue with them.

Younger generation either lack Self-confidence and Self-esteem or overtly possess overconfidence. The education that they receive during the graduation period is failing to prepare them for the current industry standards. Parents, Teachers, Students are in a mad rat race for marks and aggregates. They are failing to gain the employable skills which current market is looking for.

Youth today is in dilemma with nil clarity on what they are doing and why? They are not even hesitating to risk their life and time for materialistic things. It is due to lack of awareness and proper guidance from the people by whom they are surrounded. The emphasis should be on competitiveness, academic success, career goals, earning and social mobility. Little or no attention is given to the need of tomorrow’s leadership. Little emphasis is placed on critical thinking, problem solving. We find around us the youth who are mostly non-thinkers, passive followers, imitators’ conformists, and not leaders, innovators or problem solvers.

The youth is giving up certain family and social values and adopting in its place a sense of self-alienation to the born culture and traditions and blindly imitating everything “modern”. To counter this situation, parents have to play an active role in the right development of their child. But parents today unfortunately have no time. They need to become fully involved at every stage in the child’s mental growth until he/she attains the age of 20. This is very critical and almost inevitable as there is a lot of pressure outside the home in today’s society, which is forcing or misguiding the younger generation towards miss-clarified activities.

I am not sure what many people have told how to treat your kid. But as per the current situation treat your child like a prince/princess for 13years. From 13 to 23 treat him like your enemy with love; this is the period where you have to be tough with your kids. During this age parents should be like a good coach; pointing every simple mistake and explaining them how to play the game of life. Once they have clarity about life, treat them like your friends.

Certain portions of cine media is falsifying the purpose of youth as a mere fighters for infatuation in the name of love, at times suggesting destructive and dis-integrative instincts, provoking misconceived heroism. Technology has influenced the way we think about life in general and interpersonal human relations in particular. Advancements in technology should help for the development of the country by providing opportunities for the people to use them in effective manner. Of course any technology has its own merits and demerits, and it’s in the hands of users, which can lead to its efficient usage. Huge efforts are needed to educate people in our society regarding this issue.

I feel it is the right time to recognize that we have a serious challenge on our hands: to ensure that next generation of youth should experience a better nation than we are living in today.  It is the duty of every individual to realize his responsibilities towards himself, family, society and nation.  Let us collectively work towards this objective.
