The prettiest part of this sight is the price.
I'll tell you this early that Tong Yang is an experience that is unique here in General Santos City (and if you think otherwise, then tell me in the comment below). And here are the four reasons why:
1) The price. Can a buffet this good get any cheaper than that? Eat-all-you-can shabu-shabu ang grill for only 300pesos (during lunch time on weekdays), where else can you find a place that offers that kind of deal? Tong Yang may have a branch in Metro Manila but the prices are way more expensive.2) Ingredients are abundant and fresh! General Santos City is the tuna capital of the Philippines after all! Seafood here is just great and there are all sorts of deep sea fishes in the market. I've been to many fish market in the Philippines, and I've never seen a fish market that is as colorful and fascinating as the one in Gensan. 3) The buffet includes free drinks, free dessert (halo halo and ice cream) and a bacon counter!
And now for more details on how a food trip experience in Tong Yang Gensan is like.
Tong Yang at SM GensanThe place is neat and although there are a lot of people during lunch time, there is enough space for everyone to move.

The typical table for four is consist of a grill pan and a hotpot.
For the hotpot, you can choose two out of three types of soup base: sinigang, chicken and chilli. We picked sinigang and chicken soup.
Now let me show you the food counter.

Tong Yang at SM GensanIt looks like the meat section at the groceries. I wasn't really able to take much picture but as you can see, all the pork products are at the right-most part. In the middle are the vegetables and some mushrooms. I mostly lingered on the left park, where the beef and most of the seafood are.

If you happen to visit tong yang, don't miss the sweet beef strips for the grill and the squid. I would have indulged more on those had I not decided to make my choice of food more varied.

Here you can see all sorts of condiments and interesting sauces.

This was my sister's favorite part:Tong Yang at SM Gensan
The bacon counter for unlimited bacon! There were five of them to choose from. The most popular is the Beef Belly BBQ.

Fried rice, siopao and siomai. I skipped rice and siopao but I was able to try siomai and it's not that good for me.

Right there in the middle is where you can get your share of california maki. Unfortunately, the platter is nearly always empty because people keep on going back for more. I was wondering about that as the maki is not that good. There at the right is the sashimi. Make sure that you don't miss that as it's fresh and of high quality.

beside it is the halo halo counter. You can make your own halo halo. They also have an ice cream counter where you can get ice cream for your halo halo, or just eat it ala carte.
Tong Yang at SM GensanUnlimited drinks! Orange juice, pine-apple juice, mango juice and plain water.
Soft drink are unlimited too but I wasn't able to take a picture of the soft drinks machine.
On our table!

Bacon and all sorts of fish cooking in our grill. Actually I'm ashamed to put a picture of our hotpot here. We're such hotpot noobs! We don't know how to cook a good hot pot of soup, plus we were more excited about the grill. For instance I decided early on that I wanted sinigang shrimp to counter the umay factor so I just dumped some raw shrimps on the sinigang broth and that's it! We totally missed the art of cooking on a hot pot. O well. That is one of the reasons why we're really going back to this place.

I think this is Liempo BBQ bacon.

My first plate of maki. I ate a lot of this, especially the one wrapped in nori.
Tong Yang at SM GensanI wanted to taste all the fish they had so I got a slice of each, and I'm telling you they're all good even if I don't know what they are. I can tell that one of them is bangus (milk fish) though matapos ako matinik. Another one tasted like salmon, and the rest tasted like deep sea fishes.

my dessert
I wasn't able to take much pictures (I keep on repeating myself.hahaha!) because we were too busy picking the raw ingredients and cooking our food. It was truly a fun experience! We stayed at the restaurant for about 2 hours but you can stay for as much as 3 hours.
In the end, I had trouble moving and walking.
Honestly, I don't know how to cook. Good thing my mother was there. That is also the reason why I haven't made a food blog yet. :(
That's it!Tong Yang at SM Gensan
