Vampire Toddler?

Posted on the 23 April 2013 by Susiemcbeth @susiemcbeth
There is nothing more shocking then walking into your twins bedroom to wake them up and finding one of your tiny toddlers with blood dripping from their mouth and blood all over the cot sheets - albeit smiling happily and chattering away... But still!
Indigo is the vampire twin in question... Well, not really - At least according to the doctor it is unlikely that she has been leaning over in the middle of the night and draining her brother River vampire-style of his life-force (which I am kind of relieved about)... But still, I did check her teeth and they weren't too pointy and I also held her up to the light and checked for sparkles, just in case.
When I called the doctor absolutely panicked about the fact that my little girl was bleeding - the doctor reassured me that it was in fact normal. She said bleeding from the mouth is common with bad bouts of teething...
Yes teething!
Not only is teething responsible for the utter lack of sleep I have been getting over the last few weeks but now it is terrorising my daughter (and her once lovely white cot sheets) on a whole new and horrible level.
Teething! How dare you?
The sleepless nights for the most part I can cope with (though my zombie eyes and incidents of putting butter in my tea instead of milk, and my putting books in the fridge instead of the butter suggest otherwise). But causing my baby an inexcusable amount of pain and blood loss is entirely unacceptable. It really is going too far.
Teething as a whole really needs its butt kicked!
It is weird though, I had never heard of babies waking up with mouths full of blood before, but after consulting doctor Google, I read about a few other causes- which again, as always, come back to the evil that is teething.
1. Blood blisters on the gums bursting
2. The teeth just breaking through the gums
3. The child biting their tongue either through pain or just through accidental use of their new teeth
4. Accidentally biting the lip or inside of the cheeks
The mouth is a very rich source for blood and once a cut is made the blood is very much free flowing.
Well, at least Indigo is not a member of the undead... Though I may have to invest in some super strong stain remover.
