Viva Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas.

Last week I had shoulder surgery… and prior to scheduling the surgery we had booked a short jaunt to Vegas {for a week after surgery}. Had I known I was going to be getting surgery… probably wouldn’t have booked it, but we decided to wing it and take the short one hour flight anyways. So my last few days were spent poolside at Mandalay Bay “recovering”. And I will say I am super happy we did it. The flight over was a nightmare. Although it is a super short flight from San Diego to Vegas {an hour and 15 to be exact}… my toddler decided to scream non-stop for half of it… leaving everyone talking about “the people with the kid who had the meltdown”. Oh, yes… we were “those” people. Oh well, what are you gonna do. I just felt bad for her, not knowing what was going on.

We booked our room at Mandalay Bay with booking.com and scored an awesome rate… only $80 bux a night for most nights…. and we lucked out, let me tell you! So I booked a spa suite… and someone made a mistake in the computer and upgraded us to the 1100 sq. ft. penthouse on the top of the building on the 62nd floor! Some of those rooms are pushing $500/ night! So, yes that was awesome… Ooh… if you are traveling to Vegas with kids or a baby… highly recommend Mandalay Bay, their pool is amazing, with a wave pool and a lazy river! And there is even a shark aquarium inside the hotel!

We went to a couple of shows while we were there… Cirque du Soleil “Ka” at MGM and a fairly new show called Absinthe at Caesar’s Palace. The theatrics and set design of the Cirque du Soleil show were amazing as expected…. so I highly recommend… and it is very kid friendly. They even bring out booster cushions for the kids to sit on so they can see! Absinthe on the other hand…. not so kid friendly, but VERY adult friendly ha ha. It is not really about much of anything… just a crazy circus show in a big white tent. There are a ton of very creative acts, and a lot of profanity, so be prepared to be offended, and if you don’t like that sort of thing, well then, don’t go to Vegas. All in all the trip was good… I know you don’t really think of Vegas as a family friendly city… but it really is a fun place for families… the food is great, the pools are awesome, and the shows are the best. So why not go???
