…watch What You Eat

Posted on the 24 May 2012 by Zer @the2women

…watch what you eatOrganic.  It’s a hot-button word.  You either live by it or cringe when someone mentions it.  I like to be healthy, but I don’t live or die by whether or not my tomatoes were grown within a five-mile radius.

Some people do, and that’s cool, but I should warn you–it may be turning you into a jerk.

A recent psychological study linked organic living to self-righteous behavior…aka being a snob.  It’s not the food, it’s the moral high ground organically inclined humans believe they have.

That doesn’t mean that if you buy organic you are or will become a jerk…necessarily.  Although it’s a slippery slope from farmers’ markets and free range chickens to storming out of an eating establishment because the server couldn’t tell you whether or not the poultry was fed hormones before it met its demise.

I am all for well-treated animals and giving them some dignity before they die so that we may live.  Saving the planet and its resources for future generations?  Two-thumbs up from me.

However in a world where there are children starving in the country of your choice, how do you justify harassing that poor waitress about the quality of life your chicken salad sandwich experienced before it became your lunch?

Think about it. No one’s perfect.
