Wedding Photography in Marnhull, Dorset : Bridal Preparation

Posted on the 13 December 2017 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

If you look at a lot of wedding blogs, you'll probably notice that many of the blogs about the bridal preparation are photographed in grand hotels or stately homes, in enormous rooms with plenty of space for the whole wedding party to get ready. Of course, this isn't always reflective of reality, for many brides prefer to get ready at their family home - and I don't know about you, but I certainly don't live in an enormous stately home! So, I wanted to show you the reality of what it's like to get ready at home, with some wedding photography in Marnhull, Dorset.

One of the most exciting things about the morning of the wedding is for all the girls to be getting ready together... with all the chaos that inevitably brings! Many brides worry that 'the house will look a mess' in the wedding photographs, due to so many bags, outfits and wedding accoutrements all over the place. But I say - no, this is the BEAUTIFUL chaos of a wedding day and should be cherished - this is reality!

As a documentary wedding photographer, I prefer to photograph events just as they unfold, without undue interference from myself. Unless something is really distracting to a shot, I try not to move it... and in that instance, I'll always move things back to where I found them. It could be the critical plastic bag that's holding the bride's underwear, after all!

In this lovely wedding day, the bride got ready at her parents' house in Marnhull, before marrying at the village church and then moving onto the gorgeous Knighton House in Durweston, Dorset, for the wedding reception. This is the reality of getting ready for your wedding day at home. Bridesmaids crammed into bedrooms, climbing over each other to reach the mirrors; children posted downstairs in front of the tv to take a break; and the photographer stepping gingerly through the proceedings, careful not to get in the way or interfere with the excitement unfolding in front of us... and often having to shoot from outside the room just because of the lack of space!

I absolutely love photographing bridal preparations at home. So don't think that you HAVE to get ready in a big fancy hotel room if you don't want to. Your family home is the heart of all your memories, and leaving from there for your wedding is one of the most special things you can do.

So onto the images - and here are some of my favourites from this lovely bridal preparation for this Marnhull wedding day! I hope you enjoy them.
