Weekday Wedding at Orchardleigh: The Celebrations

Posted on the 15 January 2018 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

Today on the real wedding blog, I'm going to revisit a recent weekday wedding at Orchardleigh House near Frome in Somerset - and take a look at some of the moments that I term 'the celebrations'. Yes, the wedding day is one long celebration, of course! - but I'm specifically looking at the time after the wedding ceremony and up to the dancing.

Whilst there are lots of 'big moments' during the afternoon and evening wedding reception - the cutting of the cake, the first dance, the speeches - I've chosen the images on this blog to be more about the 'little moments'. The looks of enjoyment and delight between people, the little shows of emotion; these are what might be termed 'filler' by some, but for me are just as important as capturing the epic happenings on a wedding day. It's these moments of humanity, if you will, that are what relationships are made of, and it's these images which make your wedding day unique.

When I photograph a wedding day, I'm always thinking about the big picture. I'm thinking about photographing the story of your wedding day and everything that involves. Naturally, I'm committed to documenting the major happenings - as what would a set of wedding photographs be without the entrance of the bride at the ceremony, confetti throw, the first kiss, the first dance, the cutting of the cake? But on your wedding day, there will be many smaller stories being told, all playing out around you without you even noticing. Imagine receiving your wedding images and being able to see the look on your aunt's face as she listens to the wedding speeches once more. Imagine seeing your bridesmaid exchanging a look with her boyfriend during the wedding vows, thinking ahead to their own wedding, although they haven't even announced their engagement officially. And imagine seeing the look on your father's face as he watches his little girl, now all grown up, as she dances with the person she's chosen to spend her life with.

So without further ado, let's take a look at some of those 'little moments' from this lovely weekday wedding at Orchardleigh House - and I do hope you enjoy them.
