For those of us that have children, we all know that motherhood can be amazing! It can be rewarding, fun, satisfying, fulfilling, blah, blah, blah! Now let’s visit the flip side and discuss the things children do that challenge us and test our patience on a daily basis. You know, the things that make you want to blow your brains out!
I know after reading that last sentence, something immediately popped into your head. Something your child does that makes you want to pull out your hair and at the very least just annoys the fu@# out of you! Am I right?
ANNOYING BEHAVIORS
Today I thought I’d share a list of things that are currently annoying me. Perhaps they’ll sound familiar.
- Repeating things over and over again. Repeating things over and over again. Repeating things over and over again. Somebody stop me! Apparently it’s contagious (heaven help me)! When Alivia wants something, she will ask for it repeatedly! Not just once, twice, or three times either. No. I’m talking about saying it at a minimum of 50 times over the course of a day. Of course I’ve never actually counted but I’m confident it’s a good guesstimate. What’s worse? I can’t block it out! It’s so frustrating. So, what to do then? I demand she stop using my outdoor voice (yes, I’ve found raising my voice is absolutely necessary)! Usually she’ll stop for a short period of time, but inevitably starts right back up again!
- Whining. It drives me insane! Do I really need to elaborate?
- Clinginess. Don’t get me wrong, I love to hold Alivia and I relish the time we spend cuddling, kissing, and hugging but, for the love of God, can I pee alone? Sometimes I swear she’d crawl right back into where she came from (if you know what I mean) if she could! It’s scary to think about.
- Being overly dramatic. Let me give you an example: Alivia doesn’t like to walk around with bare feet outside. Not a huge deal since we don’t make it a habit to go barefoot on a regular basis. However certain summer activities like swimming and going to the beach require bare feet. God forbid she gets out of the pool and I have to put her down on the grass for a few seconds to grab her a towel. From the screams, you’d think I was beating her!
- A chatterbox. Here’s the thing. I’m not very vocal. I never have been. I’m a very “to myself” type of person and have always been able to play or do things quietly. Of course it came with a price. It was more difficult to make friends and communicate effectively. Later, I even developed social anxieties. Wonderful, I know. Although I love that Alivia is the complete opposite in that she is very outgoing, eager, and curious, with it came extreme chattiness. And not just chattiness here and there, I’m speaking of constant chattering. Often I can’t keep up with her. I’m not going to lie, I lack the social stamina. Always have. And usually sooner than later, the chit chatting that I’m finding so difficult to follow has now become noise. Once that happens, you guessed it, I’m searching for the closest electrical pipe I can hang myself from!
- Laziness. If you made a mess in the middle of the kitchen floor, I expect you to clean it up and without my help! Alivia pulls the ol’ “I’m tired mama”, “Can you help”? Well you weren’t too tired to make the mess right? My favorite is: “Can you feed me”? Did I mention Alivia is almost 3? Are your freakin’ kidding me? Is the fork too heavy? Give me a break. No really, I just need a break!
With all that said, I’m sure you have your own stories to share and I really hope you do. Don’t make me feel like I’m alone here!
