WHAT FASHION DESIGNERS WEAR: Patriotism. As You All Very Well...

Photo WHAT FASHION DESIGNERS WEAR: Patriotism.
As you all very well know I am very fond of my practical fashion items, such as skirts with pockets, flat shoes and big bags, but recently this notion for practicality has brought my Scottish patriotism to the forefront in my current style.
As of late, I have taken to wearing the Scottish Sporran. This tiny bag designed to be worn with a mans kilt, for carrying his whiskey (necessary for keeping warm in the cold scottish climate you see, especially given the no underpants rule with kilts) strikes a cord with all the things that I look for in a statement fashion item. Its good quality leather, its practical and hands free and it has a kind of individual twist when i wear it with trousers or other non traditional dress.
Unlike Vivienne Westwood and Marc Jacobs, I am not a fan of tartan - probably because of my Scottish upbringing, nor am I a fan of the bumbag (or fanny pack in the U.S), but wearing this little piece of leather, decorated with a Celtic design has brought out a real sense of pride in my roots. Perhaps its the fact that its worn right out there, across the hips & hanging directly over the crotch area, perhaps its the sound of the heavy leather tastles drumming on the bag, that give a feeling of pride and confidence.
This traditional piece of Highland regalia is due a come back into main stream fashion. It seems to me that every designer has his/her own trademark fashion item or accessory, and maybe i have found mines. Perhaps it will hit a note with my french piers and become the new “it bag”?
It certainly ticks all the boxes:
Practical
Chic
Quality
Unusual
Flexible
You can even adjust the chain & strap and Voila! you have a small, beautifully crafted over the body bag.
Watch out for photos of me wearing my sporran through out the summer :)
