Aren’t you going to kiss me goodnight?” the lady said on the TV to her date. What is in a kiss that invokes so much emotion? Why is a kiss on a first date something to be desired? Why is it that a kiss from a lover has so much emotion and a kiss from a sibling or your dog has less? Why would the exchange of saliva and whatever the person had for dinner dinner, be considered a desirable event? Dennis the Menace would say, “Yuck”. The human mouth is a kibbutz of a plethora of micro-organisms. Billions of bacteria live quite happily on teeth, the soft fleshy mouth surfaces, and particularly the tongue. These little bastards thrive on the sugar on our teeth and tongue until we next brush our teeth. Each time we kiss, we pass a few million on to our partner. So what is in a kiss?

Erotic Kiss

An erotic kiss in contrast with a kiss of respect, friendship, courtesy, or with a relative is recognized in many cultures around the world. If you think about it, the practice of kissing is actually strange. The passing of body fluid through the mouth, you get to taste your partner. If they are a smoker or they have not brushed their teeth, then I agree with Dennis the Menace, ”Yuck”.

Opinions among scholars differ as to the function and origins of kissing. A study by Oxford University researchers suggests kissing helps us size up potential partners and, once in a relationship, may be a way of getting a partner to stick around. ”Kissing in human sexual relationships is incredibly prevalent in various forms across just about every society and culture,” says Rafael Wlodarski, the DPhil student who carried out the research in the Department of Experimental Psychology at Oxford University. “Kissing is seen in our closest primate relatives, chimps and bonobos, but it is much less intense and less commonly used.

A kiss brings us closely together, close enough to smell and taste them. Cannot get any closer. Our saliva carries hormones and our breath, as well as the taste of our lips and the feel of our teeth can signal issues about hygiene and compatibility. According to Cher, “If you want to know if he loves you, it’s in his kiss.

If you’ve ever shared a passionate moment, then you know about the power of kissing. It’s even a science that goes by the name of Philematology. This science examines the pheromones and the chemicals released in the brain while kissing. I wonder if I can be one of their
experiments? Better not mention this as my wife reads my blog, so don’t approach me unless the pay is good. A good kiss can make you feel very good.

Someone once said to me that the main weapon leading to sex is the Kiss! Well it certainly is a weapon … especially when one thing leads to another!!

When I was in the dating game, I was told that you have to kiss a lot of frogs until you find your match, so instead of reading this, go out and kiss someone.
