“What Would You Do Today If…

You knew you would not fail?”

I recently watched the movie, “New Year’s Eve,” and that quote from a speech in the film has been with me every day since. After the speaker pauses to let people ponder the question, he concludes with, “Now go out and do it.”

There are so many unmemorable moments that pass each day, week, month, etc. Every now and then though, some memories are created and some moments hit with a colossal impact. For me, this was one of those moments.

Although just a simple question, it alludes to something much greater: being frozen in life from fear. Fear of the unknown, fear to leave our comfort zone, fear of the never-ending “what ifs,” but most importantly, fear of failure. Those fears together are enough to prevent us from even taking the risk to try in the first place. Those fears prevent us from truly living and experiencing life.

What if we changed our thinking though? What if we thought of what we would want to do and asked questions that enable us to concentrate on the wonderful accomplishments we could achieve, goals we could meet, success that we could have, etc.? What if we changed the question to, “What would you do today if you knew you would wildly succeed?” And instead of responding to that with, “now go out and do it,” reply, “why have you not already started?” When we start to challenge our own thinking, we notice just how flawed our theories can truly be.

So I ask you, “What would you do today if you knew you would wildly succeed?”
