Where the Streets Have No Name, #672

In the 1980′s, Tony Bernard, was such a huge U2 fan that he attended two nights of the mega superstar band’s “Rattle and Hum” documentary filming at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, AZ.  He and 30 of his friends headed to the concert with their 20-foot home-made “We love U2″ banner in tow and with the expectations of musical holiness just as a spiritual guru searches for Mecca.  The banner made the film and appeared during “When the Streets Have No Name” for a millisecond.  Satisfied music fan, Tony Bernard still chalks that story off as a musical highlight.

I love this story, and it is with the same enthusiasm of retelling this experience that Tony runs his music store, “Sticks ‘n Strings,” a local Tucson hidden treasure.  It is a small shop located on Tucson’s East side of town, and I can assure you, though smaller than some of the other music stores in Tucson, the quality of its equipment and well-trained staff is incomparable.

I want to give a shout out to Sticks ‘n Strings today, because it is such a good feeling as a musician to know that there is a music store nearby that I can trust for just about anything I need.  I have all of my guitar set ups down at this store by the amazingly talented and knowledgable luthier.  I’ve purchased a guitar, a child’s drum set and even a birthday snare drum for my husband from the personable staff who has walked me through every detail of my instruments with care and excitement knowing first-hand how awesome getting a new instrument is.

Parents, I would trust the staff at Sticks ‘n Strings with anything, so if you are looking for music lessons for your kiddos, you should definitely give them a call.  They’ve been in business for over 26 years, and have 6 rooms “equipped and ready to go.”  They offer instruction in drums, bass, guitar, piano/keyboard and voice.  Prices are reasonable….$25 for a half hour and are appropriate for ages 6 & up.

It is a full service store that I feel good about endorsing to all of you.  Here is the contact information.  Really, go check ‘em out!

My song of the day is in homage to Tony Bernard, Sticks ‘n Strings owner, for his strong love of music and being a hard-core music fan first.  Besides, “Where the Streets Have No Name” rocks, and the infamous performance at Sun Devil Stadium gives me chills!  I couldn’t find Tony’s banner in this footage, but click HERE to go to Youtube to search for it yourself and to listen to rock and roll at its best.
