Why Can’t People Just Say Things the Way They Are?

Why Can’t People Just Say Things the Way They Are?You know, it really gets under my skin, that people use subterfuge so often.  Why not simply say what you mean.

Yes, I know we have certain social norms that stop us from being blatantly honest towards others, therefor requiring us all to tell little white lies on a CONSTANT basis, but that’s not what I’m talking about.

There was a movie once, years ago, starring Dudley Moore, entitled “Crazy People”.  The movie deals with the hypothetical idea of honesty in advertising, and how that might change the world.

And if you really think about it, it probably would.

But let’s talk on a smaller scale here.

I am a moderator for a website that allows people to advertise things that they want to sell, post jobs, look for jobs, etc.

I love the job.

Why?

Because I get to see all the crap that people try to get away with.

For example, you’ll see a job posting for “A Sales Executive Wanted”.

These people don’t want a sales executive, which implies some sort of elevated level of sales expertise is being sought.

They want someone to make cold calls to either other businesses (B2B) or individuals (B2C) and try to sell them something!

So why not advertise like this? “Looking for anyone really, with some patience and motivation, to work 8 hour shifts, 6 days a week, cold calling people and trying to sell them our product”.

At least it would be honest, right?

I mean, it’s not like the rouse holds up past the first applicant’s phone call anyway.

They call, and are told, “we are looking for sales agents”.

So what’s the point in the first place.?

Thank you for allowing me to vent!

I appreciate it VERY, VERY much! :)

Mordechai
