Why Does It Matter?

Posted on the 22 January 2012 by Ourlittlecorner @ourcornerblog
I love this post over here.
A lot of the same things have been on my mind lately.
Several months ago I thought it would be a fun to gain lots of followers and perhaps, at some point, host lots and lots of reviews and giveaways. After a couple three months of linking up to every blog hop I could get my hands on and following over 500 blogs I decided it's just not worth it after all.
For one thing it's really not worth my time to read and comment on every blog, linked to every blog hop I can find, seven days a week. It's impossible. There's not a chance I can keep up with 500+ blogs.
After hosting a few reviews and giveaways (which reminds me I still have another giveaway I need to put up) I decided that, for me, reviews and giveaways aren't quite what they're cracked up to be either. From my experience it sounds like you have to have a certain number of followers, page views, ratings, etc to be able to review a product that you'd actually be interested in. It turns out that I'm just not that interested, after all, in fighting tooth and nail for 10,000 followers and 61,000 unique page views per month just to be able to review and giveaway a top of the line product and gain more followers. It seems like an endless cycle to me.
I've gotten a bit overwhelmed by the whole blogging and online world lately. Too many giveaways, too many blog hops, too many awesome ideas floating around Pinterest and blog land. Too many Twitter parties. I can't keep up with it all and I've decided that I really don't even want to.
I'm sure it's easier for some to keep up with blogs, giveaways, Twittering, blogs hops and whatnot but I've discovered that for me it's gotten a little overwhelming. To be a "successful" blogger and Twitter-er I think I'd have to devote 75% of my day to seeking out followers and coming up with awesome material to write and Tweet about. Whatever. At the end of the day, turns out, it doesn't matter to me.
I'd rather set the laptop down and really live. Go for a walk. Run errands. Do crafts. Play with my kids. Cook a meal. Clean house. And forget about the so-unimportant-in-the-grand-scheme-of-things-number-of-followers on my blog. Why does it really matter that I lost a follower, that I don't know from Adam, three days ago? It doesn't. The internet is fine and good but there are times I miss the "good old days" before all this internet blog Twittering Facebook giveaway stuff become oh so important.
I'll still be around but I've had to take a bit of a break and refocus. And honestly there have been many times of late when I've wished I could get that darn GFC follower # off my dashboard. I'm tired of seeing it. I've heard it's going away around March. I can't wait. Now that Circle of Friends thingy on Google + has my attention. I'd like to delete that too.
