Why Writers Block Is Afraid Of Me

Why Writers Block Is Afraid Of Me

It is true.  Writers Block and its cousin Bloggers Block are afraid of me.

You want to know why, of course.

Why Writers Block / Bloggers Block Are Afraid of Me

I love to write.

Everywhere.
On my kitchen shelf.
In a pad I always carry.
At the back of books. Why do you think they leave one blank page?
When I am sitting in front of my computer screen, I use the “compose” mode in Gmail (who calls it email anymore?) and create drafts upon drafts. It is convenient because it kindly auto-saves without me having to remember to do it.

I am a shutterbug.

Every photo I click is a master piece in my mind. And it is not just about picture quality, although that’s sometimes true, too. Every picture tells me a story. Each time I pull up an album and browse the pictures, I visually recall everything related to the moment I clicked it. And I can talk. When I was in Grade 6, one of my teachers, during a parent-teacher meeting, laughingly suggested that we cut a tiny piece of my tongue to slow down my chatter. Can you believe I remember her name? Sister Marita. Yep. And I have an elephant’s memory. I like to write about these things.

I observe.

I truly believe in the concept of balance. Some say it is because my sun sign in Libra. But I say it is my basic belief about life’s balancing act. I am visually challenged and cannot read from my right eye. And just about manage with glasses. I am also colorblind. But strangely, I have a keen sense of color and combining colors with regard to clothes. I also notice the little things. And I remember. At any given time, I’d remember what someone I met for the first time was wearing. I like to write about what I observe.

I listen.

I am curious, not inquisitive. There is a difference. When I listen, I learn. And enjoy the experience. I listen to those I interact with and I listen to others talk in a crowd. When I am on the bus, I enjoy the conversations around me. When I visit my son’s school, I love the chatter of the children around me. And have fun participating in them. And I write about them.

I see the humor in every situation

There is a funny side and a sunny side to everything. You know what they say about the silver lining to that dark cloud. And it is important to be conscious of this. I am, and it is what keeps me cheerful and cool. I practice seeing things objectively as much as I can (after I secretly overcome the subjective part, of course). And I write about it.

I interact.

The fun part of blogging is connecting. I enjoy interacting and this leads to collaborations. Remember the Write Tribe Anthology – Book 1 featuring more than 36 bloggers’ posts? I like to share the love by linking to others. By doing an opinion poll or asking a question and featuring the answers in collaborative posts like

Leaving a Legacy

Happiness is celebrating with you

When I am short on time, I write a quick post and show off my friends’ blogs, which means some great reading for my blog’s visitors. Or through guest posts from others here on my red carpet. I’ve had the honor of being the privileged catalyst in connecting other like-minded souls. And there is no such thing as too many friends, you know. Only people we haven’t met. Yet. And I like to write about it.

I think.

Yes, I have opinions. But I do not believe in ranting on this blog. I enjoy keeping this space positive, inspiring or thought-provoking. And that keeps me constantly thinking of ways to make that happen on a daily basis. Consequently, it improves the way I live. And keeps me smiling. I like to write about it.

I read.

A lot. I have enough books to keep me happy for as long as I live and I am adding to it all the time. I like to write book reviews of the ones I enjoy.

All of the above more or less define me as a person and that keeps up my flow of words. It also steered my career path through advertising, sales, marketing and training. My only challenge is too much to say and too little time to say it. Which is why I write three blogs.

I contribute to the Write Tribe blog

and post twice a month at the Blogging Betties

Today, I work as a writer, editor and business blogger for a living and that gives me scope to explore different writing styles. I believe my secret is persistence, a desire to learn, keeping an open mind and a readiness to help others.

And by the way, being a parent is in itself grist for the writing mill by way of parenting.

You see what I mean about too much to say?

And that, dear people, is why I do not believe in writers block or bloggers block.

No danger of this ever happening to me!

Here’s a great article: 13 famous writers on overcoming writer’s block

To read how more than 24 people (and counting) combat Bloggers Block or Writers block visit the linky on this Write Tribe Post.

P.S. – that would be 25. Including me.

P.P.S. – If you’re wondering why I wrote Writers block instead of Writer’s Block, it is because it doesn’t deserve an apostrophe. In this post.

And by the way, I’d like Beloo Mehra who writes a fabulous blog to know that she’s not the only last-minuter. She has solid competition. I’ve managed to sneak in a link a minute before a linky closed. Even if it closes, there are ways to have it added. Bah, deadlines!

Have tips to add? You’re welcome to participate. Here’s the prompt. Write your post and add it to the linky.

“Describe at least 5 ways you tackle writer’s block / blogger’s block” You are free to describe more than 5. After the linky closes, we’ll pick ten ideas and compile them into a post here, duly crediting the creator of the idea.”

So what is your take on writers block / bloggers block ?

And what made you smile today?
