Wildflower Marquee Wedding in Somerset: Before The Ceremony

Posted on the 22 August 2016 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

When I photograph a wedding, such as this truly beautiful wildflower marquee wedding in Somerset, it's important for me to be able to tell as full a story of the day as possible. A wedding day story certainly doesn't start at the church or ceremony location; there are so many important things that happen before the guests begin to arrive, before the bride takes a final look in the mirror before stepping into her wedding car. A wedding day story starts at with anticipation, promise, excitement, nerves, plus a whole host of other emotions and happenings. These are all just as important to remember as the exchange of rings, the first dance, the cutting of the cake.

Yet, so much attention is focused upon the bride and her preparations, and we shouldn't forget that the groom is equally as important! I love to photograph the bride's preparation on the wedding day, but it's even more of a treat to be able to capture the groomsmen's moments in the big build up to the ceremony too - because it's a story often left untold. So, at this fabulous wedding, it was fantastic to be able to join the groomsmen for their usher's lunch at a local restaurant. And, when I say 'local', I really do mean it - for the bride's family home and the location of the marquee was literally next door!

I've blogged about this before, but it's a great idea for the boys to do something together before the ceremony, something just for them that's memorable. It might be, as in this case, an usher's lunch. Or, if they're sporty, it could be a game of golf or whatever sport takes their fancy. (I'd recommend that you put the suits on AFTER the sporting activity, though!) . Whatever the guys decide to do to celebrate and prepare for the major life event ahead, do think about getting it photographed. Put it this way - you're probably not going to be able to include photos from the stag do in the wedding album, so these images from the morning of the wedding will be a far more suitable substitute!

What a wonderful wedding day in Somerset this turned out to be - and as you can see, the weather was faultless for a marquee celebration! Plus, once the groomsmen left for church I was able to nip right next door to see the bride and capture that magical moment her father first saw her dressed as a bride. Let's get on and share some of my favourite images with you from those moments before the bride (and groom) leave for church. I do hope you enjoy taking a look at this very special start to a wedding day.
