Travelling the world without a plan or a care might seem like a great idea when you’re a young backpacker, but anyone traveling with kids needs to take things a bit more seriously. Making sure that your transfers are booked and you know how you’re getting from A to B might not seem like a big deal now, but being stranded in the middle of nowhere is a lot less fun with kids in tow.
Consider package holidays
While they’re often more expensive than booking flights and accommodation separately, package holidays can be a godsend for those traveling with kids. You’ll have a representative to take care of you, and something to fall back on if thing go wrong.
Do your research
That idyllic Thai island with its deserted beaches that your friend recommended to you could well have turned into a gap year party paradise in the intervening years. Make sure you research any potential destinations thoroughly online to check they’re suitable for kids.
Get proper insurance
Making sure that you and your family are covered for any eventuality is an important part of traveling with kids. If yours are prone to accidents, there’s nothing to say they won’t be equally unfortunate while you’re away – so it makes sense to fork out that little bit extra for peace of mind.
Choose the right hotels
That beautiful, idyllic villa in the middle of nowhere might have been ideal when it was just the two of you, but when you’re traveling with kids you’ll appreciate having other people around. Family friendly hotels might conjure up nightmares of cheesy entertainment and enforced fun, but you’ll welcome those intrusions when you’ve got a horde of bored children with nothing to do.
