20-week Scan

Yesterday we had our 20-week scan and it was amazing. Due to DNA testing that had to be done because of some hereditary business we had to deal with early on in the pregnancy, we already knew we were going to have a girl, so gender-wise it wasn’t all that exciting. However, since it is considered to be a medical scan we were excited to find out if everything was going okay and if she was looking healthy. It had been almost ten weeks since our first (and last) ultrasound.

Her legs, feet and bottom. She’s lying with her legs slightly crossed.

The entire scan lasted about 30 minutes and it was amazing how much detail the ultrasound gave us. You could literally count all her phalanges, vertebrae and ribs and we could also see her moving in there. To make a long story short, everything looked great and she is developing and growing well. They estimated her at about 330 gr (11.6 oz), and her femur (top leg) measured at 3,25 cm (1.3 in).

At the end she was also drinking amniotic fluid; we could see her taking a couple of gulps of it. Again, amazing!

There she is at 19+2. It looks like she’s sucking her thumb, but she isn’t…
