The start of the year is always pretty exciting. New Year's resolutions, expectations, and plans start piling up right after the clock strikes twelve but it all gets slowed down by the holidays in my case. I always think 'oh, there's so much time to rest, relax, do all I need over the holidays' and then I do even less than I manage when I'm busy. Same with blogging, so much happened but I didn't write a word. You can say no one died because of it so there's no harm done but... it just feels right to be back. So here's a little recap of what happenned during Christmas break. 
I just started reading this novel by Margaret George and I love it already! Usually I'm careful about books and never recommend something I didn't read from cover to cover but 'Elizabeth I' is exceptional. It made my holiday mornings and evenings so very interesting and enjoyable.
Going on with the book topic, here is my favorite place to shop for them, Dom Knigi. It's brilliant. If you are ever in St Peter's check it out even if you are not a book-lover. There's also a lovely Singer cafe on the 1st floor where you can admire the most amazing view on Kazan Cathedral and Nevsky prospect and drink a cup of hot coffee. 
You can find Dom Knigi book shop on Nevsky 28. It's open every day from 9:00 till 24:00.
Kazan Cathedral itself is a 'must visit' place, it's like one of the symbols of St Peter's to me. 
Of course Christmas is not Christmas without indulging into delicious food, deserts included. So I baked a Red Velvet Cake, it's not really it I think, I didn't get any red food coloring to the dough so it looks more like Chocolate Cake but I stuck to the recipe otherwise. It's yummy! The recipe will be up on the blog shortly.
