Chennai, or the lovely Madras celebrates its 375th birthday on August 22, 2014. As a part of the the Madras Day celebration, I decided to make a list of 22 awesome things to do in Chennai. I’d compiled a similar list already – ‘50 Reasons I love Chennai‘. And once again for a place which has a special place in my heart. Here it goes…
1. Spend a breezy evening at Marina Beach with sundal/ice cream/fish fry (I’m vegetarian, but this advice for those who eat non-veg ;) )
2. Eat Breakfast from any of the many ‘Bhavan’
3. Pray at Thiruvallikeni Parthasarathy Temple and eat puliyodharai there
4. Watch a CSK match at Chepauk stadium
5. Scale the lighthouse for an exotic view of the Chennai coast
Taken during my trip to Lighthouse :)
6. Spend a quiet evening at Semmozhi Poonga
7. Go atop St Thomas Mount and watch the flights taking off/landing at the Meenambakkam Airport
8. Visit Mylapore during the Cultural carnival
9. Go boating at Muttukadu backwaters
10. Have a date with wild animals at Vandalur Zoo
11. Bargain and buy some stuff at Pondy Bazar with a cup corn in hand
12. Go for a ride with friends on ECR
13. Watch Chennai Open Tennis Match at SDAT Stadium
14. Get struck in a traffic jam (of course when you’ve got nothing better to do) This idea might seem like a comic horror, but its fun too!
15. Learn different cultures at Dakshinachitra
16. Plan a one day trip to Mahabalipuram and execute it successfully
17. Sit at Elliots Beach (Besant Nagar Beach) and do nothing :D except watching the waves
18. Take selfies while perched on rocks at Kovalam beach
19. Drench in music during Madras Margazhi Music Festival

20. Jog along the Marina Beach Promenade at dawn
21. Get lost and keep searching for your gang while browsing through the shops in Spencer Plaza

The list actually doesn’t stop here. There are infinite great things that are present in Chennai which makes life awesome!
