There’s an interesting story behind “24th Street Theatre.” This theater located in one of the poorest parts of the city brings theater to their community. They get involved, offer a variety of opportunities for the community, and also invite them in to experience theater of all kinds.
They are near the end of their 15th year celebration, and by doing that, they brought in Aziz Gual, a Mexican Clown, for a limited time. Two performances are available this Sunday, April 28th at 11am and 2pm.
The stage, as you can see above is very simple with a circular black and white mat along with a matching platform in the far left corner. Three juggling balls lay near the center of the mat when you first walk into the theater.
Aziz Gual, entertains all ages, and had me laughing throughout the 1 hour show including one surprise when he even landed upon my lap. That’s right, he made me a part of the show.
He even gave me an instrument to try to play along with him, but because of my lack of rythm and not understanding, someone else was given the opportunity instead.
This is a show that can be enjoyed whether you speak english or even if you speak spanish for there are parts throughout the show that brings out the spanish language.
As this show goes on through a hour we watch as Aziz Gual takes us on a journey of happy and sad moments throughout life bringing many laughs along the way.
Prior to the show starting make sure to grab a tamale that was made by fellow community members, or something to drink, and enjoy mingling with your fellow community members in the lobby.
