Nothing can beat a nice refreshing summer smoothie when the weather is nice, can it? Not only do smoothies help us to feel better by providing us with lots of vitamins from the different fruits and vegetables that we put in them but they're refreshing, tasty and fun to make - especially with children!
My youngest Logan absolutely loves getting involved with helping in the kitchen at the moment and one of his favorite things to help with is smoothie-making! A few weeks ago Juice Plus+ contacted us to share their own incredible smoothie recipes with us and ask if we might be interested in giving them a go and I knew straight away this would be something that Logan would be really excited about doing with me.
Below I've shared the three delicious smoothies that we made last week and loved. They are perfect for a hot summers day so do give them a go yourself if you love a nice smoothie!
Sunny Smoothie
For the sunny smoothie you will need:
- 1 scoop Juice PLUS+ Complete Vanilla
- 250ml / 1 cup coconut milk
- 100g / ¾ cup pineapple
- 1 medium carrot
- 1 banana
- ½ teaspoon turmeric
- A squirt of lemon juice
- Water as needed (depending on the water content of the fruit)
Smoothie making is a great fun way to get your little one involved in helping in the kitchen as well as a great way to get them to try new fruits and vegetables that they may have refused in the past.
Our finished Sunny smoothies were absolutely delicious!
Refreshing watermelon smoothie
- For the refreshing watermelon smoothie you will need:
- 1/2 small watermelon
- 2 scoops (70g total) Juice PLUS+ Complete Vanilla
- Handful crushed ice
- A dash lemon juice
This watermelon smoothie is so refreshing on a hot day, especially with the added ice! It's also super easy to make as it doesn't require many ingredients at all. We love it!
Berry popsicles
The last smoothie recipe we tried and loved was actually smoothie popsicles - This is such a fun one to do with the kids!
For the berry popsicles you will need:
- 500g / 1 pound low-fat yoghurt
- 2 scoops Juice Plus + Complete Vanilla
- 500g / 1 pound berries (for example strawberries, raspberries, currants and blackberries - we used frozen mixed berries.)
- 60ml / 1/3 cup agave syrup
We actually ended up with extra so we enjoyed some as a tasty yoghurt and then some as a delicious smoothie drink (we added in a bit of water and blended further to water it down for a drinkable smoothie).
The berry popsicles went down so well after dinner especially on what had been a really hot summer day that we'd mostly spent in the garden. Ethan, my eldest, is usually quite reluctant to try new fruits and vegetables but thoroughly enjoyed his berry popsicle! And even my Husband Adam and I had one!
We really enjoyed making all three of these delicious smoothies and of course consuming them too. We find that making and trying new smoothies is such a lovely way to bring the family together as well as being a healthy and fun way to make sure that everyone in the family is getting the vitamins and nutrients that they need.
Which smoothie do you like the look of the most?
If you're a vegetarian (like I am) or a vegan then you may also be interested to know about the Omega Blend capsules from Juice Plus+ which are 100% vegan and plant-based and contain a unique blend of minimally processed plant oils that provide Omegas 3, 5, 6, 7, & 9. I've just started taking them myself as omega-3 can be difficult to come by as a vegetarian as it usually contains fish!
I hope you've enjoyed reading and that I've inspired you to give these smoothies a go yourself.Alex xo
