Families flock to the sandy shores of the Cornish coast each summer, but these beautiful beaches are only one of many reasons that Cornwall makes for the perfect location for a family getaway.
It’s always hard when planning a getaway for the family to find attractions that will accommodate the interests of the whole group. Older children may get bored at attractions aimed for little ones, while younger kids can get overwhelmed by busy theme parks. Luckily Cornwall has plenty of attractions to choose from, with the majority finding that perfect middle-ground that makes them ideal for the whole family to enjoy.
The Eden ProjectThe Eden Project is a great example of an attraction that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Combining a learning experience with a fun family day out, the Eden Project is one of the most popular places to visit in the county, and it’s not hard to see why! Playing host to the largest indoor rainforest in the world, the Eden Project’s biomes are a sight to behold, both inside and out. With a jungle ready to be explored, outdoor adventure spaces, indoor play areas and zip wire running across the grounds, there is certainly something for everyone here. During school holidays, the Eden Project also put on a wide variety of educational and interactive activities and exhibits, so the little ones can learn a lot more about the world they live in.
Cornish Seal SanctuaryIn the picturesque hamlet of Gweek, you’ll find something very cute! Home to seals, penguins, otters and sea lions, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary aims to rescue, rehabilitate and release Cornwall’s marine life. The admission price goes towards the upkeep of the sanctuary and to fund all of the great work the organisation does for protecting Cornwall’s sea life. As well as seeing some adorable baby seal pups, you are also able to learn more about these incredible creatures as they enjoy a tasty treat at a feeding talk.
HeartlandsA free family attraction set within a World Heritage Site; Heartlands pairs the Cornish mining heritage with family fun. Transforming what was once the mining heart of Cornwall into a giant adventure playground for kids, with unique play equipment to incite the imagination. Perfect for children and adults alike, Heartlands also boasts a gorgeous botanical garden, craft workshops and interactive exhibits, making it the perfect space for all to enjoy.
Paradise ParkIf you’re a nature lover, then this attraction will definitely be paradise for you! At Paradise Park, you’ll find a range of animals and tropical birds amongst beautiful exotic gardens. With over 600 birds calling Paradise Park home, the days are filled with exciting bird shows and displays. Alongside the parrots and eagles, kids will love the Fun Farm where you’ll find farmyard favourites like pygmy goats, mini donkeys and sheep. Living up to its paradise name, you’ll also be able to watch the resident red pandas and adorable otters at play. If it starts raining, just head to the Jungle Barn, where you’ll find a fantastic indoor play area, featuring giant slides, soft play levels and a toddler zone.
National Maritime Museum With over 400 miles of coastline in Cornwall, it is no surprise that the sea plays a pretty big part in Cornish life and heritage. As such, the National Maritime Museum finds its home in Cornwall and celebrates maritime history from the ideal location of the picturesque Falmouth harbor. The museum put on stunning exhibits, alongside their collection of boats, with the current exhibition ‘Titanic Stories’ offering an interactive experience of art, stories and artefacts about the famous ship. Little ones will love the pirate-themed play area and crafts, as well as their chance to race a model boat!
