5 Tips for Getting Back on Track with Exercise

If you have had a break away from regular exercise then it can feel almost impossible to get back into again. One of the most difficult things about exercise is finding the motivation to get going, but once you are in a routine you can start to enjoy the benefits that come with regularly moving your body.

However, it is important to remember that you are only human. So, if you have broken your exercise schedule because of being busy at work, due to a calorie-heavy weekend, or you just simply felt too tired to go, it doesn’t mean you should give up altogether. Here are some of our great tips on how you can get back on track with exercise.

Get Yourself a Workout Buddy

Finding the motivation to leave the house and head to the gym is a whole lot easier if you have a workout buddy on board to help you through. Whether you prefer going for a run around your local area or would like to try one of the gym glasses available, training with a friend is a much easier way to keep yourself in check. It provides you with accountability, makes you less likely to cancel, and also creates a little bit of healthy competition to spur you on!

Get the Right Tools

Sometimes all you need to get your head back in the game is the right tools and equipment to motivate you. Whether your gym wear is looking old and tatty, which is having an effect on your confidence, or you just don’t seem to have the energy needed to get you through a workout, then grabbing yourself some healthy energy drinks can make a huge difference.

Set Some Goals

While it may be taking all the motivation you have to get back into exercise, sometimes you need to take a step back and consider why it is that you want to engage in regular physical activity. Some people want to tone up their bodies, lose weight, or simply enjoy the benefits of being a bit fitter. Either way, you should set yourself some goals before heading into the gym. This will give meaning to your workout schedule and every time you feel like giving up, you can remember your goals and it should spur you forward to carry on.

Drink Plenty of Water

While this tip seems like a pretty obvious one, it is by far one of the most important. It is a common mistake to assume that the thirst you are feeling is actually hunger, which can lead you to overeat. Therefore, we recommend that you stay hydrated and always have a bottle of water on hand. This will help you to acknowledge what you are really feeling and make taking part in exercise more achievable. If you are dehydrated then you are going to find it tough to complete a workout!

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

If every time you head into the gym you are comparing yourself with your fellow gym-goers, you are going to find it difficult to stay on track. Perhaps these comparisons are what got in the way of you staying on track last time? Either way, you need to remember that everyone starts at a different level and everyone’s fitness journey is different. Try not to worry about anyone else and instead focus on yourself.

Getting back on track with exercise doesn’t have to be as daunting as you think. By making a few changes to your exercise plan, setting goals, and having the right tools on hand, you will be strutting your stuff in the gym once again.
