This day 5 years ago, it was about 2 am and Jared and I were having one of those heart to heart talks. The kind that you have when you have known each other for a few months and you are so eager to learn everything about one another. We had ventured into dangerous territory and we were talking about exes. We decided early on that we wouldn't go into too much detail, but we did.
I was 18 and Jared was 24. He had a little bit more life experience than I did and a lot more experience being an adult. I was telling him about high school boyfriends and immature relationships that were all I had known. He was telling me about his lack of relationship, his lack of ever being in love and his failure at ever being a boyfriend in the past.
I was quite and let him talk.
He took full control of the conversation, telling me that he wasn't a good boyfriend and knew it. He told me that he'd never loved a girl he had dated and that he felt bad for leading the girls on. He explained how hard it was for him to care about another person above himself. I understood everything he was saying and didn't really have any concern. At this point we'd been hanging out for about 4 months and it was going well. I was happy.
After hours of the Ex conversations, Jared sat straight up and just looked at me. Jared may be one of the last guys that did this, but he ACTUALLY asked, he didn't assume we were together, he wanted to make it official.
"So... do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Before I even blinked, I perkily said, "YES".
Maybe it's odd that he asked me to be his girl after telling me he felt he'd never had a successful relationship, but it worked. Jared has always been as transparent and honest with me as possible. This is just another example.
As you can see, things turned out well, because as of today we hit 5 years of being together. 2 1/2 years of marriage and we're happy.
November 27 2008 we met.
February 1 2009 we became a couple ( you just read this story!)
January 7 2010 we adopted Shia
February 4 2011 Jared Proposed
August 26 2011 we were married!
February 6 2012 we adopted Indiana
