6 Really Important Things To Do Before You Move House
Moving house is exciting, stressful, exhausting and rewarding, it's all of these things rolled into one. There's so much to do, remember and think of come moving day but also in the weeks leading up to the moving day itself too. Below I have shared 6 things that you need to do before you move house.

1. Redirect your mail

It is important that you remember to redirect your mail to your new address so that you don't miss any important post and to prevent your personal details falling into the wrong hands. Here in the UK you can redirect your mail to any UK or overseas address for 3, 6 or 12 months for a small fee to give you time to notify the change of your address with most businesses and friends/family.

2. Arrange help for moving day

Whether or not you're asking a friend or family member or if you're hiring a local removal company, make sure you have arranged the help well in advance to avoid being let down or being stuck trying to do it on your own. Moving everything in your home to a new house is a huge job and you will likely need help doing so. Click here if you are local to Santa Fe Springs to get in touch with Bekins Moving Solutions.

3. Update your driving license and car details

You legally need to have your correct address on your driving licence, and you can do this via the GOV.uk website. You also need to ensure that you've notified your car insurance of your change of address, as well as ensure that your car ownership document (V5 here in the UK) is updated too.

4. Change over your home and contents insurance

If you currently have home buildings and contents insurance then you will need to speak to your provider and notify them of your upcoming move. You should ask if your contents will be covered during the move itself (in the case of lost or broken items) and you should schedule your new insurance to start on the day that you move into your new home so that you don't have to worry about sorting it out on moving day.

5. Think about scheduling a grocery delivery to your new address

With so many supermarkets offering home deliveries these days you would be doing yourself a huge favour by arranging a shop (even if it's just the essentials like milk and bread) to arrive the morning after you've moved in. That way you don't have to worry about not having food in and wasting precious time that you could be using to unpack, driving around and then doing a food shop. If you normally shop online for your groceries, don't forget to change your address to the address of your new house!

6. Contact your providers in advance

You will need to contact your providers such as your electricity, water and gas providers to notify them of your moving date and new address to get those services switched over. You will likely be asked to provide final meter readings. You will also need to move your TV license over as well as your broadband, phone and TV services. Don't forget about any other insurances that you may have too, such as life insurance. It is advisable to sit and make a list well in advance of all of the companies and people who have your current address that will need to know the address of the new house you are moving to. Making a list will mean you give your self time to think of everyone and you can tick it off as you go.
I hope these tips have been helpful. Good luck with your move!
