The county of Pembrokeshire in Wales is treated to a great combination of rolling countryside and idyllic coastal locations. It incorporates the south-westerly most points of Wales, including towns such as Tenby, St Davids and Milford Haven. With immediate access to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, it is perfect for a family staycation. But don’t be fooled, Pembrokeshire has much more to offer than first meets the eye. We’ll be digging into the various activities that are perfect for children during your family holiday!Visit Tenby
Tenby is a beautiful coastal town in the south of the county with a wealth of great activities on offer for kids. It is home to a range of beaches, all of which are perfect for a sunny day out. North Beach and South Beach are the most popular, featuring long stretches of sand and clean and safe water for the kids to play in. If the weather turns bad, then you can head to one of the indoor attractions that the town offers, such as the museum and art gallery. For slightly older children, The Overhang – an indoor climbing wall – is a great way to spend an afternoon, and the parents can choose to watch or get involved as well!
Heatherton World of Activities
Located just a few minutes outside of Tenby, Heatherton features both indoor and outdoor activities making a suitable day out no matter the weather. The park is split into different zones, with the play zone being more suited to younger children with activities such as jumping pillows and an indoor soft play area. There is also a family zone with crazy golf, bumper boats and kids’ go-karts. But it wouldn’t be a ‘family’ day out if there wasn’t anything for the adults! With paintballing, go-karts, 18-hole golf and escape rooms, there is just so much to do!
Folly Farm
Folly Farm is a family owned theme park in the south of the county that offers a range of activities for all the family. One of their most popular activities is the onsite zoo, with a wide range of animals from across the world. Lions, penguins, giraffes and rhinos are all cared for at the zoo and sanctuary. With land and sea animals, along with an exciting aviary, you’ll be kept busy for hours while exploring the farm. The barn is also a great chance for the kids (and adults) to get up close with some of the farm’s animals.
Blue Lagoon Water Park
If your children are at swimming age, then the Blue Lagoon Water Park is a must! The range of indoor and outdoor rides and slides will keep the children laughing and smiling for hours while you can relax as you float around the lazy river. If the range of wild water activities isn’t enough to convince you, then the packed calendar of events surely will! The weekly Wild Water event sees the park turned up to the max while the frost lagoon gives you a reason to return during the colder winter months.
Explore Canaston Woods
If you’re looking to have a great family day out without breaking the bank, why not head to Canaston Woods which sits on the Cleddau Estuary? The woodland is packed with wildlife such as squirrels and a wide variety of birds. Pack up a picnic and head out for the day to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the busy theme parks. Why not devise your own treasure hunt to pique the kids’ interest during your walk?
Check Out the Night Sky
The more rural and remote areas of the county are not only great for visiting during the day but spectacular for gazing up into the night sky. You’ll be able to see the stars come forth to reveal their beauty, with stars, satellites and even planets lighting up their dark surroundings. Bring some warm clothes and a blanket to snuggle up as you explore Orion’s Belt. Often, these will be the memories that the kids remember for their lives.
Oakwood Theme Park
If the kids still have some energy to burn off, why not head to Oakwood Theme Park? Their main rides are typically suited to older children and adults, so this may be one to avoid with very young children. Their highlights include and spectacular wooden roller coaster, high-speed metal roller coaster and a log-flume style coaster as well. There is also a range of family rides that are more suited to those less brave. If you’ve had your fill of rides and want to keep your feet firmly on the ground, then why not check out the arcade and air rifle range?
