A Girl in Red Coat

Image

On a chilly December nightA girl strode out to find some solaceShe covered herself in white and warmAs the mist and chill clung to her face
As she strode up the known dark alleyA man came out of the shadowsHe swung his black cloak asideAnd followed her to the gallows
She saw his breath coming out in a puffOf smoke that looked darker than the darkHis boots made only a ghost of a noiseA clink of metal, a cough like a rough bark
As he strode up to her, the dark manCaught her wrist, caught her shoulderThrown back, she could not moanPressed tight, no escape- he couldn’t let her
In an instant she was against the wallA strong woman trying to break freeBut he was stronger as nature made a manAnd he took advantage of it against the weak
She screamed for helpBut none cameShe cried out for deathInstead of this despicable game
“What did I do? Why me?,”Her mind screamed at invisible passers by“This excruciating pain I can’t take, Let cold numb me, let me die”
She passed out while he belligerentlyUsed and abused her body and soulAnd when he was done, that beastThrew her weightless body ashore.
The media came as well as the protestersThe police told them to stopThe girls in the media and protestationCame back home shivering in the dark
A young reporter too was, I heard,Eve-teased on the same streets (NOTE!)In front of the camera of daily newsReporting the story of A Girl in Red Coat.A Girl in Red Coat
No. It's not funny to just eve-tease. No man can ever imagine what it feels like when a girl is raped. Kill the beasts in public. And promise to the Lord to teach your sons and daughters to NOT RAPE + DISCOURAGE RAPE/EVE-TEASING, rather than telling them TO NOT GET RAPED! A girl struggles for life right now. I don't know her. But I did go for the candle light march at India Gate. "Desh kuch kare na kare humara, apni aawaaz khud utha tu. Hum hi kar dikhlayenge, khud apni aawaaz utha tu." (Translation: The country may or may not do anything, but you yourself speak up for it. We'll make it happen, take a stand for it.)
