A Last Minute Escape To Cornwall
For the past few weeks, I've found myself craving a change of scenery - work has been stressing me out a little more than normal, the kids had been having tantrums more often than usual and the work going on in the house was contributing to my low mood.
So, last Sunday at 11.30 pm, I decided we needed to take ourselves away from the day to day monotony for a little break - and I logged on to the Parkdean website, and booked us a break - starting the very next day!
We're fortunate with our working lives that we can take off when we want to and work from wherever we are in the country, so there was nothing stopping us from heading off - it's been playing on my mind that come September when Tyne starts school full time we won't have the luxury of this sort of freedom which is why I'm keen to make the most of it this year.
We chose Cornwall as it's right on our door step and one of the most beautiful parts of the country in my opinion, but we decided to try an area of the county we hadn't visited before - we usually head for Newquay or St Ives, but this time we chose The Lizard - the most southerly point in the UK!
After a 2 and a half hour journey, we arrived ready for a week of rest and relaxation - and plenty of fun too!

We went for the new for 2017 caravan as although there were cheaper options available, I'm really not keen on pet friendly accommodation as I hate the thought of finding random hairs around and I'm always convinced that there's a smell lingering - the caravan was really lovely with absolutely tons of room for the boys to run about and play.
We couldn't have asked for a better week weather wise - we had brilliant sunshine every single day, it felt like being on holiday abroad - the heat was something else! I actually ended up getting extremely sunburnt and even a week later my skin is full of blisters - ouch!
We spent a fair bit of time on the Parkdean Mullion site itself, as there was a great outdoor pool which the boys absolutely loved and I LOVED the chance to do a bit of sunbathing in peace when the babies napped.
The kids absolutely loved the evening entertainment too - there was a nightly disco, with visits from the Parkdean mascots Sid & Lizzie too - and Bingo for me of course! Sort of a must do for Mums isn't it?!

One great thing about the area was that there was no 3G whatsoever, so using the internet was an absolute no go unless you drove 20 minutes to the next town of Helston - but that only contributed to the relaxation, with no temptation to spend any time scrolling through social media or concerning myself with what anyone else was doing. I could focus 100% on myself and my family, and it was a very welcome break.
One thing we really wanted to do during our visit was head to Kynance Cove which was just 5 minutes drive from the site - I'd seen a video on Facebook last year about Kynance Cove and how with its white sands and torquoise waters it was the UK's most stunning beach so I was really looking forward to checking it out.
It was around a 15 minute walk down to the beach from the car park but there was a pushchair friendly path and although it was steep in places, it was certainly manageable and quite a pleasant walk with some break taking views on the way down.
The cove itself did not disappoint - it was the most stunning place I've seen in the UK, with dramatic rocks and crashing turquoise seas - I have never seen the sea look so beautiful in this country! There were impressive caves to explore too, much to Tyne's delight as we told him all about the smugglers who would have used them in years gone by.

We also paid a visit to Lizard Village which was very cute and kitsch, and home to the best Cornish Pasty shop we've ever found - we indulged in a Cornish cream tea too, because these things are a must on holiday aren't they?!
We had such a wonderful week away, and it was exactly what all of us needed.
Yes we've come home to the same repair work in the house, the laundry pile is even higher and my workload is bigger too - but our skin is tanned and our shoulders are lighter, our hearts full of lovely memories of quality family time.
It was just what the Doctor ordered.
