It was August 1995 in Toronto. The tournament chosen by me was The Rogers’ Cup and was better know in tennis circles as The Canadian Open, and was one of the oldest running tournaments of the world.
What was so special about this particular year and this particular tournament?
It was my first tournament after the incident. Although I physically recovered in just a few weeks, the mental scars took longer to heal. Would I ever be the same again? I don’t know.
For now, I was but a phantom of my earlier self.
