a Sonder File: Trunk – v.IV

It's my favorite blogging Vampire! Marla Todd takes us on a road trip for this next part of our sondering journey, as she talks about the ideas that we carry with us just in case..

Welcome to the Sonder Files.

August 2015

We'd left Holbrook Arizona that morning and were driving West on highway 58 just past Boron, coming up on the Mojave Space and Air Port.

The discussion centered around landmarks, music and murder. Murder because as I drove and talked I was thinking out the plot of a book. It is a story of a ghost. THE GHOST that I mention in my blog (written under the name Juliette Kings aka Vampire Maman.)

At first he was murdered in a car accident but I don't have the technical knowledge of cars or poisons to make it work. We pondered several options then my child came up with a bathroom scenario. A frying pan on the head in the shower. A big cast iron frying pan. Then we laughed about how morbid we'd been.

The road through the desert in August seemed to never end. Our conversations stopped and started. I let my sixteen-year-old go uninterrupted in long monologues about music, politics, environmental issues, roller skating, school and life. I love to listen to her talk. I never stop her to interject any dream killing negativity.

We'd come from Albuquerque, where she had been in the Artistic Roller Skating National Championships. She and her partner had won gold. An obscure sport in the United States and now a drive through obscure landscapes. We were headed home to the Sacramento area.

At a rest stop we marveled at a couple of handsome men parked in a truck next to us. We laughed at why two such men were randomly at this place, in the middle of nowhere, at the same time we were. We marvel at just about everything. We're like that. It makes life interesting.

Charlotte opened the trunk of the car to get to something. There she found a letter.

"This is from your blogger friend. Why is it in the trunk?"

"It just seemed right to bring her with us."

"She shouldn't be there. When does she get out?"

"She got out a few weeks ago. She'll do great. A lot of people are behind her."

"She did Peace Cat."

"Yes, she did."

No other questions. We were all on the same page. That night, eight hours later, we arrived home at 2:00 am. Tired but not tired of each other.

I got to know my vampire blog family best, after I went to jail. I count it as one of the better parts of my journey. If you haven't read about their lives- drop on by, undead or not. {One of the greatest things about life, is how it continues after we are gone.} But before you run off to her place, leave her a little comment here to let her know you're thankful she sondered. It's these types of messages that remind us how the key to an interesting and love-filled life is to find interesting things and keep the things and people we love close. Just, don't put them in the trunk if they're real people. Only letters, okay?
