A Storm in Summer

You know those days when the going's been rough and the hours have felt long and tedious.. maybe a plan or two falls through, maybe the heat starts to get to you.. and you really wish you could just take a break from all of the hustle for a little while?
And just when you're about to hop on the subway, the skies crackle and boom, and a drenching downpour catches you in the middle of an intersection somewhere around 6th Avenue and Bleecker.  Your daughter squeals as you begin to wince, and then you wonder why you're wincing at all.
She loves the water. You love the water. You're soaked and haven't anything to lose. So instead of descend into the steamy subway, you turn right around and march through the violent rain towards the park. People run for cover all around you, but you joyfully march on. And then you get to the park and it is completely deserted... it is so beautiful and quiet.. and just then the rains completely stops.
You let your daughter run wildly and free, past the chessboards, past the empty benches, and on to the majestic fountain in the middle. The park feels like it belongs to you alone.
It has already been such a spontaneous day that you decide it might be a good idea to jump right in the fountain.. so off come your shoes and off comes your daughter's dress, and in you go. And your afternoon turns around.
And you realize that you did indeed find that little break from the hustle and bustle that you were longing for, and you are amazed that it was right in front of you all along..
You know those kind of days?
Well this was one of them.
