A Summary of Popular Anti-Aging Treatments

You already know that aging is a natural part of life, and you might think that the wrinkles and skin problems that show up as you age are also natural. But if you feel like you have to live with unhealthy skin, regardless of your age, you're wrong. There are plenty of clinical anti-aging treatments that could potentially help you. Here's a quick summary of some of the most popular ones.

Using Injections for Anti-Aging Results

One option you have, which is generally quick and easy, is to go to the clinic and have injections to treat minor wrinkles. There are two main categories of injections that you can have. One is the use of fillers, which are meant to fill up the space and smooth out your wrinkles that way. Hyaluronic acid and other healthy materials can be used as cosmetic fillers.

The other injection option is Botox, which is actually somewhat of a paralyzing agent, or at least it gives that appearance. What it technically does is relax your skin by keeping certain chemical signals from telling your muscles to tighten up. But the outward impact it has can make the treated area look temporarily stiff and paralyzed, as opposed to relaxed. Nevertheless, it smooths out minor wrinkles temporarily.

Using Light and Laser Therapies to Reverse Signs of Aging

There are also plenty of cosmetic anti-aging devices that can treat signs of aging. Among them are intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser devices.

An IPL machine uses wide beams of "cool" light to treat the skin. A laser uses more intense beams of light and heat that are focused. That makes lasers better for more precise treatments, while IPL tends to treat a wider area of skin.

Of course, lasers come in multiple forms. For instance, a CO2 laser actually breaks its beam into several microbeams. The idea is to leave tiny spaces of untreated skin between the treated areas. The laser should cause just enough damage to the treated cells that your body will make more collagen in order to repair that damage and strengthen the surrounding undamaged cells. Some CO2 laser procedures are known as Fraxel treatments.

Another option is the use of pulsed-dye lasers, or PDL treatment. PDL can treat everything from spider veins to scars. It involves using short bursts of very specific laser light to treat the skin. It can be uncomfortable, but a good technician should be able to numb the area or use a cooling spray to minimize your discomfort.

Removing Dead Skin Cells with Chemical Peels or Microdermabrasion

One of the best ways to remove signs of aging is to get rid of dead skin cells. Our bodies do that naturally on a daily basis, but very slowly. Sometimes those dead cells can build up. Microdermabrasion is a means of removing those dead cells quickly by basically sanding them away with a hand-held device. A chemical peel can do the same thing, but obviously using chemicals instead of machinery.

Other Potential Treatments You Should Consider

Those are only some of the common anti-aging treatments you'll find in local clinic. Some others include Titan, Sculptra, and Thermage. There are also procedures like thread lifts and ultrasound to consider. With all of those options, there's no doubt that, with a little help, you can find one that will make your skin look healthier.

Some of the anti-aging treatments I've tried, RevLite, Chemical Peels, and Microdermabrasion. I was offered to try botox before but I don't think I'm ready for it. Need to do more research as I'm hearing 50/50 feedback with botox. Then of course, Anti-aging products that I include in my morning and night skin care routine!

Let me know what anti-aging treatments or products you've tried before. I'm not getting any younger so I'll definitely check your recommendations. 😉
