About That Recipe Project…

Posted on the 25 October 2012 by Lilveggiepatch @Lilveggiepatch

Things have been a leeeetle busy around here lately, which is why I haven’t been blogging so much. I’ll give you more details on that later, but here’s a clue: fafsa.jpg It’s never too late!

That being said, I’m sad to tell you the 2012 Recipe Challenge has been pushed to a far corner of my mind. I did find some great recipes earlier in the year, though, both my own (these Two Bite Cherry Chocolate Balls have been my favorite snack this year!) and from others. Check out the page for some recipinspiration!

I’m still trying to eat at home as much as possible, but meals have been pretty basic. B made a really yummy kale-turnip-carrot soup the other night that we “ate the crap out of,” as he would say. It’s definitely soup season!

Last night was another simple plate: corn “mashed potatoes” (1:1 corn flour + water, brought to a boil and simmered until thick), avocado, tomato, lentils and basil. When I don’t want to make a really “involved” meal, I tend to make simple plates or bowls like these.

I made a couple of these burger bowls, mostly because I forgot how good Trader Joe’s Vegetable Masala Burgers are. (Seriously, they are so good.) Just a pile of steamed veggies topped with sweet Thai chili sauce, vinegar, sesame seeds, and the burger patty. Sounds weird, but the flavors all work!

In other news, I’m obsessed with Dan Savage. I’m lucky to have the kind of job where I can listen to podcasts (I’ve only just started to do this after 2+ months at work), and I’ve been tearing through the Savage Lovecast like it’s going out of style. It makes me laugh out loud at my desk.

Also just finished The Marriage Plot. I really wanted to like it- I LOVED his Pulitzer Prize-winning Middlesex- but it just didn’t do it for me.

Neither did Damsels In Distress . It had all the ingredients of a good movie: four girlfriends, a college setting, offbeat humor, Greta Gerwig (whom I absolutely adore)… B and I just couldn’t get through it. We actually haven’t found a movie we really liked in a while…
