After 30 Years…

We meet again.

When I was growing up, I had a friend.

Ok, I had more than one, but I had a friend who’s parents had a cabin on the beach that I hung out at. I am not sure when we met, but I am guessing it was when we were about 12. Her name is Karen.

Now if you do the math…

Ya, nevermind…I always sucked at math, and it doesn’t matter anyways. Let’s just say we have been friends forever.

She used to come up to the coast from Vancouver and spend the summers at the cabin. We were inseparable, for years. We got in lots of trouble, well not lots, we got AWAY will lots of things we probably should have got in trouble for :)

We skinny dipped…

We slept out on the deck, watching the stars and talking until all hours of the morning…

We fell in love, with lots of boys…

We drank…

We laughed…alot.

We grew up together.

There were some lost years, lots of them…until a couple of years ago when she found me on Facebook again.

I was totally thrilled that she found me, I have thought of her very often over the years, and wondered what had come of her.

Well she moved to Australia…and married a guy from there…and had three kids.

She still lives there, and her parents still live here, in Vancouver, and they still have their cabin in Gibsons, on the beach.

Well imagine my surprise when she told me her Uncle lived on Cortez Island, which is a short jaunt from where I live now, and she was coming up for a visit.

Well today was the day.

We met at the local McDonalds, and promptly ditched the kids and their Uncle :)

We went for a great dinner at Moxies, we had lots of catching up to do…we did the best you can with one night :) We finished dinner and then came to my house for a cup of tea and a visit before I took her home to her Uncle’s place, that is seriously two minutes from the Garden Centre…

What a small and amazing world it is…

Really…when you think about that, what are the chances that this all happened. I kinda feel like it was a little bit of a dream :)

I am hoping to get one more visit in with her when I go back down to Vancouver on Tuesday. She will be at her parents visiting until the end of July.

The last few weeks have been just amazing…between getting to see my bestie Cathy when I went to Victoria…

Meeting Sandi from Ahhsome…

And now seeing Karen after 30 years…
