Yesterday we took B1 and B2 to visit the Sydney Tramway Museum. It is 2 minutes down the road from us and something that has been on our to-do list for a while. B1 and B2 are both obsessed with and amazed by trains, planes, trucks, cars, buses and pretty much anything with an engine that moves. We knew they would love seeing the trams up close, let alone going for a ride on one.
The Museum is home to many Sydney trams as well as trams from Brisbane, Melbourne, Ballarat, San Fransisco, Nagasaki, Berlin and Munich.
Inside the Museum there were so many trams to look at. B1 and B2 were in heaven. You were allowed to climb in and walk through some of them. B2 wasn’t happy when we stopped him at the ones that were for looking only, and let me tell you, toddler tantrums do echo inside that building. Luckily, we went late in the afternoon and there were not many people other than us and the staff.
One wall was lined with information boards and B2 quiet enjoyed pointing out his favorite pictures to me.
The post box was so much fun.
There is a souvenir shop inside one of the trams. We dared not venture inside with the rowdy twosome.
The Sydney Tramway Museum is a volunteer run organisation. The drivers were so happy and welcoming which helped make it such a pleasant experience.
The trams were beautiful inside.
It was very exciting when the cars on the highway had to stop at the crossing for us to go through.
We went for a ride down to the National Park tram stop where we had a little break, picked up some more passengers and the drivers changed ends.
We were very lucky that both times we crossed the highway there was a police car in the stopped traffic. B2 graced everyone with his version of a police siren.
There is a small grass area that has picnic tables and a BBQ area. There is also a kiosk.
The Sydney Tram Museum is located on Pitt Street and Princess Highway, Loftus, NSW, adjacent to Loftus Railway Station.
Entry is $18 for adults, $12 for seniors/ concession, $10 for children and you can get a family pass for $46. Preschool children are free. Entry includes unlimited tram rides for the day.
The tourist tram service to The Royal National Park is $6 return or $4 single fare for adults. Or $4 return, $3 single fare for seniors and school children.
They are open Sundays and public holidays (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day) from 10am-5pm, and Wednesdays 10am-3pm as well as additional weekdays during school holidays.
