I have had a lot more evenings like this lately and I've realised it's because I'm going about things in a completely different way. That saying "Always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got" feels like its ringing true.
My mindset has definitely improved since taking more control of my anxiety and it's now starting to have a rippling effect and things feel like they're going in a more positive direction. I recently joined What Katy Said's Facebook community Decluttering Motherhood, I've enjoyed her tips on organising your home and some of them are really working. The one that got me was the whole idea of having a shiney sink. This idea is really easy to implement, you may be thinking I've gone a little bonkers but let me take a moment to explain. If you take the time before bed to clean your sink, in the morning you will be greeted with a beautiful sink and it will instantly make you feel good. No more, sighing at the chores ahead. This little habit seems to have a ripple effect and really spurs me on to keep on top of the house. One of my biggest causes of anxiety and a bad mood is mess - so this new habit is really helping.
I have moved away from YouTube and only now watch a few videos. I was finding I was falling into a world where I was constantly comparing and getting myself that I just couldn't seem to get into the whole YouTube thing with my own channel. It's not to say that I will never make a video again, but not spending my evenings watching vlogs, which unfortunately all seem to be the same these days has made me far more productive. Instead, I'm finding I'm reading more articles that resonate and inspire me more and have given me a new sense of direction.
I've put down my phone a lot more, instead, I'm drawing, writing and listening to music. Doing the things I love. Of course, I still love to have a good scroll on Instagram and Pinterest - but it's far less than in the past.
My changes have been small, little steps towards a more happier me. Why not try something different in your routine, shine your sink, do some doodles or turn the TV off and turn some music on. See what impact it has.
