Apple Sauce Smoothie

I always want fruit smoothies but I rarely have vegan yogurt on hand. I can’t buy vegan yogurt anywhere nearby so when I do actually have it on hand, I hold onto it like a rare gem until it expires. True story. So finally I am giving apple sauce a try instead. It’s not a perfect substitute since it ends up a little thicker but it works. It’s easy to find decent apple sauce in stores. I don’t need to refrigerate it and it has a long shelf life. Apple sauce can also come in small serving sizes so it’s easy to use one serving size at a time. It’s cheaper than soy yogurt too so there are many benefits in my mind for the switch.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened apple sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of fresh blueberries

Directions:

1. Add all ingredients to blender and process until smooth. Serve immediately.

Yields: 1 serving
