Are Legends Born Or Made?

Are Legends Born Or Made?

Are legends born, or made?

This is a thought-provoking question. We’ve heard of rags to riches stories, stories of people who are known as legends, inspiring millions across the world. Who has not heard of Oprah Winfrey, J K Rowling, Steve Jobs, Andrew Carnegie – the list is endless – these are people who rose to the top through sheer grit, fueled by their passion to succeed. They were self-made legends.

Is there another way? Could legends possibly be…..Dropped?

The answer seems to be a big YES. To my absolute surprise – and delight – I came across the videos of “Voyage” a global campaign by premium beer brand Heineken®. They have come up with this unusual yet fascinating experiment to find out what men are truly made of.   Let me explain! You are the quintessential normal guy who has a great job, wonderful friends and comfortably getting along with life. Imagine suddenly being picked up from your comfort zone, as it were, and chosen to go on a legendary adventure to a place you’ve never been to do something you’ve never done before! You’re transported into a legendary adventure, an unknown place, to a brand new experience where you must use your creativity and available resources to survive and thrive.  How exciting is that? You could find yourself in the freezing wilderness of Alaska – alone on a glacier. You have nothing but a giant life-ring, a spare set of clothes and a plane ticket home, hundreds of miles away from the airport.

So here is what they’re doing: taking different men from across the world  and dropping them in remote global locations armed with only the most basic supplies and directions for survival. The result? “Dropped” a series of episodic adventures featuring these daring explorers and recording their legendary travel experience.  Isn’t that exciting?

How to keep track?

As the fifth installment of the  Heineken ‘Legends’ platform, The integrated campaign, you can catch ‘Voyage’ on a variety of platforms across broadcast, digital and mobile, enjoying a truly immersive experience via the Heineken® Dropped YouTube channel.

Here, you can track each “Dropped voyage and access documentary-style content. If the whole idea excites you, submit your own video entries to the ‘casting couch’ -  who knows you might be the one to be “Dropped” next and share your own legendary travel adventure with the world.

What is truly inspiring about this whole experiment?

Every ‘Dropped’ travel adventure will be customized to fit the leading character – lets call him/her the hero – forcing them to stretch and discover their own limits and conquer their fears. Their memorable journey will take them across four continents, bringing them face to face with a multitude of challenges – rough terrain, strange locals and modes of transport they might have never even dreamed of!

The Dropped episodes will unfold, bringing to life the social experiment, sharing with the viewers the experiences of each voyage they follow, shwoing them how each traveler is faring via a series of diary entries and journey updates.

Where will the journey end? At home.

But will the travelers make it?

are legends born or made

That depends on the adventurer, for the answer lies within them. The outcome of each Dropped encounter is a mystery that will unfold – an unscripted experience based on the participant’s desire and ability to conquer their challenges. their success will depend on their response and reaction at each step.

Which might well lead us to believe that legends aren’t made. They’re Dropped.

What is life without adventure? I am loving this whole idea because I love unplanned traveling to unknown places!

There is magic outside the comfort zone. What do you think? Would you enjoy being on Heineken’s Voyage?
