Are you living with intention? (1 Simple Exercise)

We meet different kinds of people as we go through life. Those living with intention and those who drift along.

On one hand, there are those who are highly motivated and driven, living with purpose. No matter what they take up, whether it is something to do with their work or business, or doing something around the house, they go about it with a sense of purpose-as if they are on a mission with everything they do. They are determined. They put their best into all they do. And let's admit it, they can be very inspiring and have an aura of confidence that is attractive. They are like magnets that seem to draw people to themselves.

And on the other hand, we also meet people who simply go through the motions and carry on with their routine, doing the absolute basic to survive. One can see this in all areas of their life-they do just the bare minimum at work. When they get home, they often drag themselves to their couch and probably spend the rest of the day watching mindless television.

If you strike up a conversation with this type of person, you will end up listening to their sob-stories, how unfair life is. They spend all their energy and time pondering over everything that is wrong with life and are happiest when they nit-pick on things, constantly complaining.

Unfortunately, it is easy to slide into the second type of person. It is all too easy to slip into being passive and disinterested with everything. It takes barely any effort to make this a habit.

But there is good news too! We can just as well emulate the first type of person-the one who is focused and seems to be living with intention.

The thing, though, is that we must make extra effort to raise ourselves to be the type of person who's on a mission. It does not happen naturally.

Isn't it wonderful that we have the choice to pick which direction we want to take? The choice to be that person with a sense of purpose in life and live with intention?

It is just as easy to choose one type over the other.

How to start living with intention?

The answer is simple. You just have to find something to be passionate about. It doesn't even have to be complicated. Start small. For example - if you are lazing around when you know you ought to be doing something productive, such as tackling your to-do list, all you need to do is get up off that couch and get started on that task. Even if you have to force yourself.

Here's an easy exercise you could try. It works beautifully for me.

Set the timer on your phone. Choose an activity you need to do. Maybe clear your desk. Tackle that "out" tray. Decide what you want to do. Then press start on the timer. In those 15 minutes, stay focused on the task. Do your best to accomplish what you set out to do. Don't be distracted by anything. Keep going until your timer goes off.

There is a pretty good chance that the sense of momentum stays with you, making you want to continue doing what you were doing until you finish the task.

Now's a good time to pick another thing to do. As you keep going, it will get easier to feel excited about what you need to get done. The enthusiasm will carry over to your work and other aspects of your life.

Before you know it, the living with intention mentality will become a part of your psyche. It can be life-changing. All it takes is a little practice.

So-here's a thought. Contemplate on how you can develop a sense of living with intention so that it takes you forward rather than make you settle. When you settle, you can end up feeling frustrated.

Be brave and stretch out of your comfort zone. Live your best life, your happiest life.

This wonderful book " The Power of Intention: Learning to Co-create Your World Your Way " by Dr. Wayne Dyer is a great read to get you started on living with intention.
