AT THE CHELSEA MARKET
Gaby and I unexpectedly found ourselves in Chelsea the other night with nowhere to be and no one to see and with an entire evening just waiting to be seized.  So we popped in to the Chelsea Market and for a stroll. The Chelsea Market, which is housed inside of a beautiful old biscuit factory building, is like walking through a postindustrial food-lover's heaven.  All metal beams and slanted floors and brick and pipes- it's pretty much a commercial version of my dream loft (you know, where Gaby and I live with our five kids in an entire floor of an old factory with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city and we cook and make art all day. hmmm.. one day).   It has been fancied up over the last few years and hardly resembles a "market" anymore, but my oh my do they carry delicious goodies.  We browsed the shops and threw pennies in the wishing "well" (actually a carefully busted giant pipe which shoots water down a hole in the ground) and danced on the illuminated floor.  By then we were starving, and of course this pregnant lady wanted only to eat the one cuisine which the Chelsea Market didn't offer- sushi.  So we left and walked 7 avenues across town to a cute little vegan sushi joint, ordered to go, and sat on a stoop on 14th street to enjoy our dinner.  Another magical summer night about town.
