Babies First Car Journey
Preparing for babies first car journey can be a daunting experience and it's one that is often overlooked when it comes to new baby prep.
It may be because all of my births were c-section deliveries but for some reason, that first journey home from the hospital is always a very nerve wracking one for me - between worrying about the pain I'll feel in my scar from bumps on the road, to worrying about how baby will respond to traveling for the first time - it can be worrying!
Here is my checklist of things to do before baby arrives to make sure it all goes smoothly:
*Clean & Check Over The Car
Before baby arrives its worth making sure that the car is nice and clean, ready to recieve your perfect little new arrival - you won't feel comfortable taking baby home amongst a pile of old rubbish or in a dusty car so give it a once over a week or so before baby arrives (or better yet, get someone else to do it for you - you're pregnant!)
You'll also want to make sure that everything is in proper working order - check your tyres (we had our new Point S tyres fitted for our MOT just before Sailor's birth), check your oil, etc.
*Plan Your Route
You can never be too sure what time of day you'll be leaving the hospital, so it can be difficult to plan the best route for avoiding traffic jams but for me personally after my c-section births I liked to make sure I knew the best route home to avoid speed bumps coz OUCH!!! I learned that lesson the hard way first time around!
*Fill Her Up!
You want to make sure you've got plenty of petrol/diesel before setting off because nobody wants to be stuck on the side of road with a newborn!!!
*Fit The Car Seat
Hospitals will not let you leave without a car seat for baby, so this is something you'll need to make sure that you have ready - they can be a nightmare to fit though so its well worth getting all of that before baby arrives, as nobody wants to be standing around a hospital car pack with a new baby trying to figure it out!
What are your tips for making babies first car journey a little easier?
