Baby Must Haves: Nursery

Posted on the 27 August 2013 by Wifessionals @wifessionals
Registering was so overwhelming for me as a first time mom. I read through hundreds of blog posts from other mamas and also compared tons of reviews. In the weeks that followed our baby shower, I was so happy to see so many moms state that their favorite products were ones on my registry! I am really confident in the items we chose, so I thought I would share our choices with you. I created a little mini series to cover all the major groups of items and gear that we own for our little one. I also plan to update you all as time passes and we use these things once she is born.
Go check out the items we already covered:
Baby Must Haves: Essentials
Baby Must Haves: Gear

To start off, here are the major nursery items we have. Down below you will find the smaller items.

Baby Must Haves: Nursery
Poang Chair: Picking out a chair for the nursery was a pretty big deal. I didn't want to spend $400 and I also was hesitant to buy a glider. For one, you can't re-use the glider in another room in the house and secondly, I would read horrible things about kids crushing their fingers in the sides of gliders by accident. I saw a few moms say they had this chair and loved it. So I went to Ikea and sat in it. Ryan and I were sold. It leans back enough that I could comfortably sleep in it and it bounces enough for me to "move" the baby. They also have a rocking chair version, but like the reviews I had read: I couldn't get out of it very easily. We got the leather cover you see above, but you can choose from a ton of different options. You can also choose the wood color.
Poang Footstool: This paired with the chair makes for a comfy place for me to feed the baby and rest in the middle of the night. Again, you can choose from a ton of different covers or wood colors.
Babyletto Crib: I fell in love with this crib when Ryan's sister bought it. What I didn't like was how much it cost. This one goes for around $400. So I went out on a hunt to find a dupe...and I did! I found this crib at Walmart for $260. It is identical except for the drawer color. If you read in the reviews, a ton of people painted the drawer white, making it an exact knock off of the crib above. Once we built the crib, we realized that the drawer matched the wood on the chair and footstool, so we decided not to paint it after all.
Hemnes Dresser: This used to be my dresser before I got married. Then we moved it into the guest room. Now this dresser will be the baby's dresser and changing table. I cannot tell you how in love I am with the Hemnes line from Ikea. There is at least one piece from it in EVERY room in our house. I love this dresser and it has held up incredibly well. It looks brand new, even after 3 moves. It's a great height for a changing table and you just connect the changing pad to the top.
Hemnes Nightstand: The picture you see above is for my favorite nightstand that is now in the nursery. They discontinued it, so this links to another nightstand in the same line. I have this next to the chair for me to set my phone, a drink or to grab a tissue from while I nurse the baby.
Owl Lamp: I love owls. They are all over the nursery. I got our owl lamp for $20 at Hobby Lobby when it was on sale. I've linked to a similar lamp that I found online.

aden + anais Muslin Changing Pad Cover: Like I mentioned above, somehow owls turned into the theme for the nursery. I was thrilled to see that aden + anais had an owl print available when I registered. This line is called "for the birds" and I have almost every item from it. I really like this changing pad cover because it is pretty thick and extremely soft. It fits perfectly on our Summer Infant Changing Pad.

aden + anais Muslin Crib Sheet: I registered for the matching crib sheet. We have the Safety 1st Crib Mattress and it also fits perfectly. This was a worry of mine because I kept reading reviews from people saying that sheets wouldn't fit our mattress. I haven't had an issue and these definitely fit without me struggling or bowing the mattress.

Crane Humidifier: I love this humidifier. I actually purchased it last winter for Ryan and I to use in our bedroom. I was getting horrible bloody noses from it being so dry and also from being pregnant. It's quiet and I love that it gives off a cool mist instead of a hot one.

BreathableBaby Mesh Crib Liner: I chose to register for these because normal bumpers can increase your baby's risk for SIDS. This liner was really easy to put on the crib and it's not an eyesore.

Cloud b Twilight Turtle: I kept seeing the Cloud b line of items for the nursery. We ended up with two of them. This little guy displays a peaceful constellation on the ceiling to soothe the baby to sleep. A lot of my friends have this turtle and their babies love it.

Umbra Tissue Box Cover: I used to have a similar tissue box cover when I was little. How precious is this? Your tissues look like smoke coming out of the chimney.

Cloud b Sleep Sheep: This is the other Cloud b item we got. I had such a hard time choosing between the lamb and giraffe! This sheep plays soothing sounds to help the baby go to sleep. It attaches to the side of the crib with velcro, so you can actually take the sheep when you travel as well.

Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail: Thanks to another blogger mama for introducing this diaper pail to me. This has to be the best diaper pail on the market. It's made of steel so it doesn't hold smells. They designed it so you aren't forced to buy special bags - just regular tall kitchen bags work! You also can use it for both disposables and cloth diapers! This pail was a must have for me.

Planet Wise Diaper Pail Liner: The pail liner that Ubbi sells has bad reviews. The Planet Wise line is the highest rated pail liner for the Ubbi that I could find. I grabbed this in the "seaspray" color and will plan to use it when we switch from disposables to cloth.

OXO Perfect Pull Wipes Dispenser: So this may seem like an unnecessary purchase...that's what I first thought when my sister-in-law suggested it. But her husband swears this is one of those things that just makes your life so much easier. You just load your wipes in and the weighted plate only releases one wipe at a time. It's supposedly really clutch when your newborn is spraying poo all over you...
