Back to Nature

The gaps narrow between workspace and home with each passing day. There is now a growing desire to bring nature home. expect to see more interiors filled with greenery, hanging pots, plants, and herbs. As we are surrounded and immersed in artificial intelligence and technology for work and play, everybody is looking to natural materials for balance in their space.

There is a strong nordic influence today in modern interiors with abundance of clear light, space, and simple, well-designed furnishings. The natural look is the key in this "down-to-earth" theme, but the abundance of warm textures such as wood, leather, paper & other materials, it never appears sterile or cold. The raw, industrial aesthetic is still going strong, with concrete, clay, copper, glass, and steel the main material focus. These will be seen in a variety of effects, from marbling to irregular and uneven surfaces to a worn and aged appearance.

Product designers are beginning to experiment with different materials today to inspire and develop new products.

Textures derived from nature, whether they are animal, mineral or vegetable. Think botany, insect prints, fossils, bone, wood, bark, stone and organic shapes. We are tending to like our woods looking raw, or if they are shiny - shown in a way that we can really appreciate them. We now want materials and finishes to look authentic and we are using them in more simple ways in order to appreciate their beauty.

Additionally we are leaning towards steel, copper, pewter, gold and other metal accents in preference to just chrome and stainless steel. Combining them with nature weaves a different magic.

Read more in my earlier article - The unexpected colours in 2016, where I mentioned that Emerald Green would be one of the colours to watch and bring into your interiors.

If you read or review any recent interior design magazines or browse another online publication you will most likely find a conversation surrounding indoor/outdoor residential environments and decor. Natural textures are a big trend and it would show no sign of slowing very soon.

It is a popular theme to bring the outdoors in and vice-verse, because today individuals desire to feel better connected to the natural world. Hope the above article would give you enough inspirations to bring nature elements into your dwelling space.
